All I want from this game is a unification of the ideas in Smash U and Smash 3DS (that is, I want Smash Run in HD finally, and all the awesome 3DS stages) and the previously cut characters to return. Wolf, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Pichu, Snake, and Ice Climbers.
That's all I want.
Hmm, while the 3DS stages seem sort of feasible (I mean, the hitbox data is all there and the characters basically operate the same between versions, the models and textures just need to be updated for the stages themselves between versions), that's six characters additional right there. Ice Climbers is the only one rumored to technically work, the rest would likely have to be made from scratch, and given how long the development of the actual DLC took, I feel like that's a somewhat tall order.
Another thing I didn't really think about the other day is the fact the rumor states that it is scheduled sometime within six months of the Switch release. That is to say, it could be SOONER than six months, depending on what they are planning and what they need to do. Keep in mind that Mewtwo's development alone took several months time, in fact I think it might have been around six months before he was playable. Granted, it's not as if every asset in the DLC team was focused on Mewtwo, but even so, a LOT goes into character development for these games.
Pichu's a clone, Wolf is a tweaked Fox clone, and the others all have Brawl data (which SSBU clearly pulled from).
As far as pulling from Brawl data, I'm pretty sure it has been said that they basically rebuilt the characters from the bottom up for the mostpart. It's just that they decided to build them up into what they were in Brawl.
That said, I wouldn't mind seeing any of the lost characters returned, but I'm keeping my personal expectations a lot lower than that.
It was never clear what Sakurai meant by that, but looking at the way characters play when compared to Brawl (and how he stated that Mewtwo was difficult to implement because they had no usable data to work with) I think he was referring primarily to making HD models and textures, as opposed to rebuilding all of the character data from scratch.

Wolf's removal really bothered me. They went out of their way to bring back a lazy Melee clone (Dr. Mario) to add onto a franchise already rich in representation, yet removed a semi-clone from the previous game, who came from a franchise already low on characters (and thus also removing a villain...ish character, when Smash is already lacking in villain representation).
As for the idea of Sm4sh Swi4ch, I dunno. I feel that it could piss many people off for Nintendo to release a THIRD version of Sm4sh so soon, plus to me Sm4sh felt like a blueprint for a bigger and more well-rounded Smash game that, IMO, a "GotY" version wouldn't easily accomplish.
plus this isn't the smash remake/port that tons of people have wanted for years lol
But either way, I would like to see the following changes:
- all DLC from the WiiU and 3DS games included right out of the box; this is a total no-brainer
- combined WiiU and 3DS stage roster; again, total no-brainer
- customs for the previously DLC characters
- bring in Smash Run in addition to Smash Tour, to make collecting custom gear/moves less of a pain in the ass
- in fact, make collecting custom moves/gear less of a pain in the ass in general
- maybe introduce more classic stages; it's bullshit how Melee got totally shafted over for DLC stage choices and was relegated to Melee stages already in Brawl
- more tools/features for the level creator
- this might be more a 5mash idea, but bring back actual Break the Targets, allow players to build and upload Target Test stages, and have Target bonus stages in Classic like in 64/Melee/Brawl, except have the game pull either one of a few pre-loaded target stages or randomly pull downloaded Target stages
- revive Wolf and Ice Climbers, rounding out the Sm4sh roster to 60 characters
- give characters with "dual" outfits (Wario, Robin, Cloud, Bayo, Wii Fit, etc) 16 colors like Little Mac got; Sm4sh hacking has shown that it's pretty trivial to give most characters extra costume slots, coding-wise
- ALLOW Miis TO BE USED ONLINE
- BETTER ONLINE NETCODE
If all they did was add Ice Climbers, I'd be happy. It's already been said that they had them working in the Wii U version before they were dropped due to the 3DS version, so it's not like it would take them much effort.
That said, Sakurai probably isn't involved in this port, since he's supposed to be currently working on his own project. I'd be very surprised if they were to implement any new features without him.
The only thing that has me concerned about Ice Climbers is that the Switch appears to be slightly less powerful than the Wii U.
Um what? How does the Switch seem less powerful than the Wii U. Rumors have it that it's not much more powerful than the Wii U, but it is more powerful.
The thing runs Breath of the Wild and Skyrim.

But does it run them well? Does BotW run as well on Switch as it does on Wii U?
We really don't know yet.
But from the rumors I've read, and from the technical analysis I've seen, the Switch is slightly less powerful than the Wii U, and would have to be in order for it to avoid overheating or having an abysmal battery life. There's a fair bit of "THE SWITCH IS AS POWERFUL AS THE PS4," but whenever a rumor from a "source" comes out, that turns out not be the case. I would love if Nintendo put more power into the Switch, and maybe it somehow does manage to pull a power boost when it's docked, but it sure looks like Nintendo has traded power for portability with this one. They're essentially running mobile hardware, so my expectations aren't that high.
And it doesn't run Skyrim, technically. The video of Skyrim running on it wasn't actually running on it (proven by the image going through the guy's arm) and there's been no official announcement it's on the system.
More worryingly is the apparent 3 hour battery life this thing has...
Well that proof is kind of redundant considering that the actors have already stated that all the screens in the video were blank dummy screens.
But the rumors that have been coming from the proven reliable sources have been saying it will be more powerful than the Wii U, but probably not as powerful as the PS4. The same sources revealing the Smash rumor in the first place. I'm prone to believe them since they have a proven track record.
I have no doubt it will be more powerful than the Wii U. Even though nothing has been announced, it does seem like a Wii U port of Smash is more likely.
I'm not sure how I feel about that. I mean, a lot of people didn't own a Wii U but at the same time it's a bit pants for die-hard Nintendo fans as they'll not be getting much new.
Would be very happy if Ice Climbers came back though. I mean not only was they one of my go-to guys (along with Ness before he was nerfed) but I was a huge fan of the game, even if it wasn't a 'classic'...
I just hope if it is a port there's a way of transferring data - some of the stuff in that game took a long time to do (looking at you stupid board game thing)...
They should have all the alternate special moves unlocked at the start. In adition to that, a new Adventure Mode using some of the assets from Smash Run. Not Subspace Emissary but a bigger version of Melee's Adventure Mode.
I want some of the best stages from the 3DS version to appear. Magicant, Mute City, Spirit Tracks, etc.
And Pac-Man. Like, his Wii-U course sucked. No one remembers Pac-Man for bloomin' Pac-Land...
