Welllll not necessarily. The description in today's update makes it sound kind of like alternate costumes were a last minute idea. They might not have time to implement alternate costumes for everybody. Still, hopefully they made time for all the significant ones.

I wonder how many characters will actually have alternate costumes after reading him mention that there was almost not time for these. Maybe Zero suit Samus was just something he hadn't thought of and he almost didn't have time to implement it.

So far, the truest form of alternate costume confirmed besides this was Mac's hoodie, and that was probably there because it was easy to implement. He had a hoodie for his intro, he just needed to keep it on.

HOWEVER, the interview with Sakurai after Lucina was shown made it seem like she was originally going to be an alternate costume of sorts for Marth, so... Who knows.

I just want to see Dr. Mario as and alternate costume for Mario, quite frankly.

And I already see people complaining about this costume everywhere... It is almost like they didn't read that it was from another game.

Don't forget a Doctor Luigi Costume as well as Nurse Peach.

Dry Bowser, Galacta Knight, Dark Meta Knight and OoT Ganondorf. I have my fingers crossed for those.
True Daisy model and voice for Peach would be nice too. Dr. Mario would likely get his own slot, because Lucina. Maybe Dr. Luigi costume for Dr. Mario? That's a bit of a stretch, but who knows.

You know what I kind of want to see? A Link to the Past or A Link Between Worlds Zelda. It's a minor design change, but I think it would be a nice old school nod for her to have.

Or a Hilda alt. At least a Hilda color, come on.

Masked Dedede and Ms. Pac Man alts, Sakurai. Make it happen.

I'd say the Ms. Pac-Man thing has a good chance considering the large number of gender-swap alts. available, but the whole Lucina situation is probably the best indicator.

So, I've been seeing this causing a ruckus on other message boards today: a possible roster leak complete with pictures.

This hasn't been debunked in any way as far as I know (except the post about DLC characters is not provable at all, it's just hear say), and it seems totally in style with all the other models. If this is our final roster, how would you feel about it?

No way that's real, why would dark Pit and Dr. Mario be as a separate character? I would love for Shulk to get in and baby bowser would be rad, but I don't even know what that dog is from(don't jump me)(unless that is the duck hunt dog, which would be the DUMBEST character addition ever)

Well if an alternate character has any form of alterations from the original, it merits an additional slot according to Sakurai, and in practice it makes sense. In a game where it keeps records of every played character, having a character that is somehow stilted depending on what costume is selected might interfere with that.


Just because the roster might not be what we expect doesn't necessarily mean it's fake. To me this looks like something Sakurai would very much do, and meets basic expectations one might have from a fighting game franchise that's several games in. At this point the only thing that could disprove this if it was true is a different leak or a well-placed picture of the day.

I just don't see why what amounts to an alternate costume would merit an additional slot still when characters are starting to get alternate costumes.
