What's really worth mentioning though is that the vocal part of the Internet does just that - they're just a really vocal minority, just like the people who enjoy these games are in actuality also a very small minority. Even a statement with "vote with your wallets, boycott this garbage" isn't really going to stop people who want these games - odds are the people who are "actively boycotting" this game probably weren't going to buy the game in the first place anyway and just had nothing better to do at the time besides complain about your product. Most of their intended audience (you guys) were going to buy the game in the first place anyway, so what's the big deal, unless ESRB ratings are actually getting skewed due to recent controversy?

The other thing is that the more media coverage this gets, being from news sites talking about DOAX3 to really vocal people on Tumblr, that's all free press. No one was going to buy DOAX3 anyway (no one really bought the other 2 stateside, besides) but from all the coverage they've given it, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to release the whoel time, and EVEN MORE PEOPLE THAN USUAL buy the game because it's "that game with the tiddie everyone complained about" FINALLY being released!!

Like, I wouldn't be surprised if this is some kind of magic marketing conspiracy way to further de-legitimize arguments against sexuality issues in vidya by making it look like they've won for now, but then release the game and be like "PLAY THE GAME THAT'S DEEMED TOO HOT FOR AMERICA" and just rake in the sales money with an actual rake for a game that would've went literally un-advertised anyhow

Not releasing anymore games over a stupid-as-hell debate has to be most cowardly thing to do. Idea Factory shouldn't pussy out like that.

I've only bought Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 1 recently on GOG.com. It'll suck if the rest don't come out over this bullshit.

odds are the neptunia series aren't gonna be affected - I mean they announced a bunch of their current games coming out on Steam and that they're going to bring MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies to the West along with another Fairy Fencer F game. I don't think they'd make that announcement and then say "WOW!! FUCK IT"

I think it's referring more to like...Moe Chronicle and the upcoming Moe Crystal. Games like that. Rereading it, I think it's more like "The opinion on sexuality in games in the West HAS PREVENTED US FROM LOCALIZING SOME COMPILE HEART games. not "FUCK IT!!! NO MORE GAME"

You probably wouldn't have played a game like Moe Chronicle anyway lol. It looks like "dungeon crawl. oh and tits"

The interview basically sounded like "We're unhappy with how we had to censor some things in the past, so from now on if we're asked to censor things we're just not going to bother."

So as long as they don't meet resistance, they'll still put out games. That's what I gathered anyway.

I actually agree with Dolphman, lol. Adhering to criticism on the actual quality of the product is one thing, but this is literally just people getting their jimmies rustled over the appearance of a virtual character. If they don't want it, they don't have to buy it, but they shouldn't prevent other people from being able to buy it.

Nah, this makes sense. I definitely feel it's a little much to be bitching about "cowardly" developers, though. The answer isn't to shame the developers into "Manning Up" or some bullshit like that, it's to let them know that there's as much demand for that content as there is for its obliteration. Let them know that "Western Audiences" aren't a hive mind.

DOAX sells better stateside than in Japan from what I've heard.

I just looked up Moe Chonicle. Yeah, that doesn't look like anything I Would play, after seeing the screenshots on Google image search.
As much as I enjoy Dungeon Crawler RPGs, especially the first-person view ones. The lolicon imagery is really off-putting.
Sorry if I got mad. I was just a bit worried if that series got affected too, as I've only recently became interested in it.

I had no idea games were censored like that. I thought that's what the ratings were for in the first place. You know, E, T, M? Why would you have to censor a game with an M or T rating?

There's a couple issues when it comes to international ratings. First of all, most game rating boards are government owned and run which means that they have very powerful and strict abilities to regulate. You will not find drug references in German games, and for quite some time couldn't find blood in Australian games because of this. When it comes to things that occur in the states, this is something done by the company's discretion. They want to comply with the ESRB, but they're not strictly tied to it since it is a non governmental organization. Its much harder to sell a game that doesn't go through this process however as many stores refuse to stock non rated games, including Steam if my understanding is correct. A lot of games that would be considered pornographic do not go through this process because everyone knows where they'd land anyway, and you're not going to find it in Steam or Best Buy anyway.
