I guess the Wii is backwards compatible with the following then:
NES
SNES
N64
SEGA Master System (whoa, that's not even a Nintendo Console!)
SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis
One console I forgot the name of, but had King of Fighters or something
Arcade cabinets
And since the Wii U can emulate a Wii, it has all that and:
Gameboy Advance
Nintendo DS
Wii again

Oh, I am - but they never actually said "We're bringing backwards compatibility to the console so you can just pop in your discs and play". To be fair, this is fine too because when there's trophy support, it's like...
you're playing the game for the first time again and unlocking stupid little rewards for doing so :V They can't add flags in for backwards-compatible games.
Like, it's definitely software-based emulation

Umm.... the only thing it's backwards-compatible with is the Wii. Everything else is emulated. When the term "backwards-compatible" is used it's like...you can actually put your old discs in and they work without a problem. The easier way to describe it is
Backwards-compatibility = hardware emulation. There's an actual chip which functions like the previous-gen system that works when you put the old disc in.
Virtual Console, Sony's "Classics" on PSN = software emulation. It's just emulators written for the console with tweaks for each individual game.
I believe the Sony emulators would work with any game you threw in there hypothetically (as all games were no bigger than a specific size) but Virtual Console require tweaks specifically to support the size of the cartridge and based on the specific hardware in the chip (i.e. Mode-7 or the Super FX chip. Hacked VC games on the Wii required ROMs to be injected into games with similar sizes etc.)
Also how can you forget the Neo-Geo MVS. It was literally an arcade cabinet in a console, and that's groundbreaking. lol
Like, you could actually put the big ROM cartridges from Neo-Geo AVS machines (the arcade) and they'd play arcade-perfect with some additional features for the MVS (like add training modes and user-friendly option menus)
Kosheh, my friend. You missed the point of both my and Nick's post. I'm complaining about the misuse of the term "backwards compatibility" and Nick is making fun of it. We both know how it works.
Sony doing this right as Microsoft decides to let us play 360 games on XBONE wasn't the greatest movie.
Hoping they'll reconsider their practices a little.

I KNOW but that doesn't stop me from bein mad as hell about it too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ):
i really hope they somehow put physical buttons on it
the patent says, it does have physical buttons. Imagine a smartphone, but stick and buttons sticking out from the screen.
The patented design optimizes visibility despite the thumbs covering part of the screen - it's wider than usual so it works more like peripherial vision when in use.
Anyway color me interested. It sounds really interesting but I need to see it in action first
Right now the biggest downside I can see is that with your thumbs always resting on the screen it's going to get smeared and oily and gross on the lower sides of the screen ...
I like buttons. That feel you get when you press down. It feels like you are really inputting something. During twitchy gameplay, I like to rest my fingers on the buttons so I'm ready to instantly input a command. I just like feeling those bumps beneath my fingers too.
Having no buttons is really bad in my opinion.
My only thought is, "Please not another gimmick". Can we just have a standard controller? Please?
Am I the only one who's hyped up for tomorrow's smash broadcast?
I just dont know what to expect honestly. Im expecting a Cloud release date along with the Mii costume. The internet is also claming that there are leaks of Wolf, smash 64 stage port, paper mario, and... Adventure mode. But thats the INTERNET dammit.
I'm just too hyped for my own good. What do you guys think? I'm in love with the idea of adventure mode since I had a great time with it in melee back in the day. I also dont really like classic mode much. Sure its cool and all but its also kinda boring how you're just a figurine moving on a platform and where you go determines who you fight, the end. I find adventure mode would be a great thing to add into smash 4 if it's true, although looking at it from a different standpoint, I would assume it would be a bit difficult to add a whole extra mode in a patch update. I could see it selling well as a DLC though. Heck... I'd buy it.
I hope those don't happen. I would've been ecstatic if Paper Mario and Adventure happened if it were a surprise. I want tomorrow to be as surprising as possible, like Cloud's reveal.
I would like this to be a surprise too, but I've reached the point where I just don't care about being surprised. I just want this over with because the leaks are real convincing, and yet, you cant trust it because there's a high chance of it being fake. (That and I'm horrible when it comes to being patient about something like this. A final announcement.)
By the way, the website that the screenshots were posted on was INCREDIBLY HARD to find for me. Etika and someother dude checked it out yesterday in a video he posted on youtube.
Honestly, I won't be surprised if it's the "last Smash broadcast" and then either
- A lot of DLC characters at once (well, like...4, compared to just 2) or
- A DLC release cycle for 2016 and then all DLC ceases
- characters in release cycle include previous Smash characters and the Ballot winners
Like I wanna play it safe and say like, I'm expecting Cloud (ofc) and I'd REALLY LIKE WOLF because his playstyle was GREAT (plus, Starfox Zero!!!)
I think what I really want though is to just get home on time tomorrow so I can sit down and enjoy the whole broadcast in a Skype call with my pals -w-;
