To be honest, outside of Flash gaming, I haven't seen any point and click games being released these days. They're probably a very niche thing at this point, sorta like text-based games. I can't speak for everyone, but maybe gamers prefer having direct control over movement, instead of having to click around everywhere.

Machinarium, Botanicula, and Telltale games (like BTTF: The Game) are a couple. I admit they're not very recent, but I've played the latter two this year. I do agree though, it's much less popular than it used to be, which is a bit of a shame. On the other hand, I usually am more comfortable directly controlling characters.
starr mazer looks like a good point and click. the sprite quality looks amazing and the shoot em up parts look great as well. ill probably get this game as soon as it hits steam :0
I've heard Daedalic makes good point and click games, like Edna and Harvey. Personally, I like their Deponia trilogy. Unfortunately, the protagonist and the way the games progress can leave a poor taste in your mouth. It's really a series you'd have to try out for yourself before you can decide whether or not you like it.
Also, there's something that's been bugging me.
We have two sets of systems that are similarly named.
The Wii and Wii-U
The Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo NEW 3DS
The Wii-U was selling rather poorly.
The NEW 3DS is selling well enough that they've stopped making old 3DS systems.
The NEW 3DS is more similar to the 3DS than the Wii-U is to the Wii.
That New 3DS is literally just a 3DS with a second control stick and better 3D settings.
The Wii-U adds the game pad which not only gives you the ability to continue playing while someone else uses the TV, but allows for many more functions in-game. I can't describe them properly off the top of my head, as I don't personally own a Wii-U.
Do you see what bugs me here?
Of course, anyone is more than welcome to show me evidence that the New 3DS isn't doing as well as I think it is. Please.
maybe they should make a new wii u. that way, sales will increase. :^ )
The new 3DS is not a truly new system while the Wii U is. But I see what you are saying.
a New 3DS is a different kind of investment, too. it's less than two hundred bucks and has everything you need. a Wii U is on the other side of two hundred and requires a TV. a New 3DS and a $30 game is a far better Christmas present (especially in multi-child houses due to person console but still with multiplayer functionality), and the Nintendo handheld line is already known for its similar names (Game Boy being used for over a decade and DS being used for half as long)
a 3DS is a safer gift, especially by non-immediate family. cousins and friends with a 3DS are more likely to pester parents to gift 3DSs on birthdays or Christmases (new or old); that's the viral advertising model that built Pokemon as a franchise. parents are more likely to buy a 3DS for each kid to distract them, especially in the age of "can i borrow your phone, mom?"
so to compare a handheld to a home console isn't really fair. a Wii U is an investment. a system with $50 controllers sans extensions and games that average $50 - $60 isnt a system as easily adapted
I never understood the "WII AND WII U NAMES ARE TOO SIMILAR NOBODY UNDERSTANDS" because I grew up with Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Nintendo 64... and everybody just called it "The Nintendo" and knew what the fuck we were talking about.
I think "Wii" and "Wii U" is less confusing than "DS" and "3DS", especially after "2DS".

It...makes sense why you'd think that? But a lot of people in the 90's actually thought that the Super Nintendo was also an add-on for the NES, or that Super NES games worked on the NES too...y'know, kinda like people nowadays think the "Wii U" is somehow a $300 tablet that you buy for the Wii as an add-on. The name, logo, and the fact that it's backwards-compatible with all your Wii remotes is kinda confusing for moms and dads.
Parents actually got pretty annoyed once they found out they had to buy completely new hardware to play those new Super Nintendo games, lol

Oh yeah, they did.

I swear, some of the funniest news stories come from soccer moms flipping tables over the tiniest things.
Props to the creator for the program. It sounds like they have quite a bit planned for it in the future. In that case, it might have been wiser to release it in a small part of the internet so it wouldn't gain attention as quickly. That way, it would take longer for Nintendo to notice it and they could add more to it before Nintendo sends in the cease and desist order.
Then again, I dunno if it's really possible to keep a Mario (fan)game/program/whatever obscure for long...especially one of this scale.
Look, unless you religiously follow a video game company, odds are you will approach with confusion.
Xbox and Playstation are especially difficult with similar names with altered numbers or subtitles.
Nintendo is confusing most of the time. Old school days Nintendo was always in the console title. Then GameCube and wii broke that up, but now wii u done gone and screwed it up again.
Fans have no problem, but anyone approaching without foreknowledge is doomed. My Grandma got Mega Man X month after my birthday (since it was sold out at the time) and asked the poor clerk for super Mario x.
