I honestly admire the clever Sonic OC-esque designs of indie game characters such as Lilac and Sparks the Electric Jester (basically a MegaKirby the Hedgehog kinda being).
Those two games alone seem to be bringing back the mascot platformer genre that's being almost dead since the late 90s and early 2000s.
Back in the day, there were interesting concepts but also poorly executed, even downright ripping off Sonic. Like Bubsy and Awesome Possum.
We did get a few good ones, like Zool and Jazz Jackrabbit. With the latter being self aware that it copied Sonic while parodying it as well.
Though there are ones that stray away from the inspiration. The current Giana Sisters games now avoid being Mario clones, because that was the reason the original C64 game got pulled off the shelves back in 1986/87, which resulted it being the most pirated game for the system.
Plus we're getting games following Banjo-Kazooie's footsteps like Yooka-Laylee, The Legend of El Lobodestroyo and A Hat in Time.
But the latter is ignored by many because of the asshole creator.
wait, what did mecha do now...?
Stole content from artists, blackmailing them and whatnot. Unless you know that already, but That's all I've read about him.
There's even accusations of El Lobodestroyo stealing textures from Wind Waker.
Frankly, it looks like only Yooka-Laylee will get released properly as we have little to no recent news from the other two.
I'm also sitting here waiting patiently for the remake of Shadow of the Beast to come out. Which is sometime next month.
And I'm especially waiting for DooM as well, due in May 13 worldwide.
So,
Nintendo Direct tomorrow, 2pm PT/5pm ET. Ensue obligatory predictions! (It's already confirmed that there won't be NX or mobile stuff revealed tomorrow.)
For me, I'm dying for some Zelda U content; I've been wrong on this the past few Directs, but I'm gonna keep betting on this horse, even though at this point Nintendo will probably wait until E3 for this and properly show it off (i.e. not teaser trailers), announcing it as a duel release for the WiiU and newly unveiled NX.

They've confirmed that the NX and their mobile projects won't be covered tomorrow...and Zelda U releases in the fall. This direct's all about their
summer releases.
That said, I think they're probably going to announce that Starfox Zero's been pushed back to June lmao, some Fire Emblem DLC, and details on the Cloud/Corrin/Bayonetta amiibo. Maybe, MAYBE they'll reveal details on a release date for Series 4 of the amiibo cards (unlikely; they'll probably talk about March 18th being the launch of Series 3 AC figures and cards) and maybe talk about the release of the "Summer Isabelle" amiibo figure. And MAYBE a Detective Pikachu announcement and release date (but don't expect Danny Devito to voice him)
Also probably some info on Dragon Quest VII and VIII.
I guess a gamer can dream; here's my wishlist of things that definitely won't happen:
- Additional Splatoon content somehow added this summer; "actual" DLC, Octoling and Callie/Marie amiibo confirmed
- ANOTHER Mario Maker item bundle and even more little Marios to unlock
- For the 20th anniversary and to tide gamers over until the holidays, Pokemon Stadium added to the Wii U eShop. Using your Nintendo Account it's able to pull Pokemon from PokeBank for minigames and battling.
- Skinship is added back into Fire Emblem Fates....as part of DLC Map Pack 1
- Metroid Federation Force!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Two mystery games announced.
- Reggie and Bill confirm despite additional delays, that yes indeed, Wolf O'Donnell is the best Star Fox character
Thanks for Sticker Star 2 Nintendo... : /
Hey, at least Federation Force doesn't suck as many balls as it did at E3.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw that. I was excited about that but then I was like "Oh no, what if it's literally sticker star"

That's because they explained the story which is apparently all people cared about.
The Japanese Direct actually highlighted gameplay and even Blastball, but y'know
America, The Nation of Entitled Gamers
p.s. inb4 Nicktendo posts about the new Super Mario Maker "Super Expert" difficulty and uses the phrase "Fuck that!" as his opinion on playing that to unlock more character costumes
As long as it isn't Gnat Attack, I'm cool. It's only 6 levels and I can skip the bullshit. You know what'd be great though: If Fighter Fly can be unlocked via Super Expert 100 Mario Challenge.
Also, KEYS!!! Best addition so far! Red coins, you can attach them to bosses/enemies, you can put them in boxes, etc. So... many... possibilities!!! AND I'M ALREADY AT 70/70 LEVELS UPLOADED AND 1600/2000 STARS UNTIL MY LIMIT GOES UP TO 80!!! Why am I limited like this? Fuck that! ...what?
And my pants got sticky when I saw Monarch Dodora.
my boy kirby is getting a lot of love this time around. new amiibos, new game, COOL AS HECK MECHS.
its all good, man.
I wish they told us more about the My Nintendo system than what we already know x.x;
Other than that the stuff they talked about is all pretty cool. Medli in Hyrule Warriors
It sounds like the new Star Fox game has a different story from Star Fox 64... granted, I don't know what Miyamoto's idea of a "story" is. Like, "Oh, well there's new vehicles, so of course that makes the story different. Because the story originally only had Arwings."
Retro Arwing is cool though. I wonder why the Falco amiibo doesn't seem to do anything special for the game, though.
kirby and robots~~~~~~
too bad about paper mario though
Hey I was always interested in Federation Force.
As a Donkey Kong fan, people need to realize there will be a point where Nintendo won't give you exactly what you want. But that doesn't mean you should shit on what they give you.
Back before Donkey Kong Country Returns we got things like Donkey Konga, King of Swing, and Jungle Beat. And they may not be Returns, but they were pretty fun.
I've honestly always thought that the Metroid universe deserved to be expanded outside of Samus' solo adventures even before Federation Force was ever announced, so I was always behind it from the very beginning.
Honestly the only thing I find somewhat disappointing about it, and it really isn't that big of a deal, is the fact that the four player characters are all just generic. I think four different hunters with actual personalities would have been a plus. But honestly, since it's a first-person game, whoever's eyes you're seeing the game through isn't all that important.
