it would be too much of a risk putting too much money on a project that maybe won't sell well to the average gamers.
Indie studios can experiment on pixelated graphics, old genres and so on, but triple a studios must make as little risk as possible to avoid bankruptcy
Didn't MegaMan 9 do pretty damn well? Not to mention the NES mini, I think there's a market for new old Nintendo games...
I mean reusing old assets (the sprites etc) would not only save money but probably help sell the game...

compare those sales to a GTA, or a Dark Souls.
Who made more money?
But when your budget is only 0.001% of the budget for a GTA game... that comparison doesn't really work for what Goemar is proposing.

Speaking of that. A new 2D Metroidvania game called Hollow Knight just came out for $15. It's already more enjoyable to me than the $60 Tales of Berseria I'd been playing...(it is still good though)

It's also on Steam if you prefer.
Just seems like companies are missing a trick. Specially Nintendo, hell nostalgia fuels a lot of there sales. I mean, look how well Mario Maker did. I'm sure a SMB 4 just using most of the sprites from SMB 3 (obviously with some new stuff) would make a profit. I'm not saying it's going to make Nintendo rich but for what money they put into it, they'd be sure to make money.
With how expensive and long high end AAA titles take to make now as well, it would fill the long gaps between there releases nicely.
MM 9 and 10 both made Capcom money. And Megaman isn't anywhere near the iconic figure of Mario etc.
I mean they made a new Double Dragon on the NES style, and Double Dragon is pretty much dead and forgotten by this point.
I always thought Nintendo could make some easy money using the assets from NSMB series to remake the original Super Mario Bros.
I think everyone is sick of seeing assets from the NSMB games... like man that has been milked dry...
let's be honest, a 7 year old probably remade the entire game in Super Mario Maker.

maybe a collection of the 3-4 original nes games + original levels could be cool
anyway this does already exists, super Mario all-stars
or the GBA remakes
And those GBA games made some nice amounts of money.
I mean who wouldn't love a Super Mario All-Stars + SMW 1+2 collection with new upgraded graphics (which can be changed to the NES and/or SNES graphics with a simple tap of a button)?
I mean if Wonder Boy can do it, surely Mario can...
Also: man would that be a sweet way to launch the Switch's online shop...
I mean, DLC is a thing now. They could make "NEW Super Mario All-Stars" starting with just the first SMB and Lost Levels (and maybe Super Mario Bros. Special) since those all use the same basic elements, then release paid DLC for SMB2, SMB3, SMW, etc.
can you guys stop talking about my gamer wetdreams please
"let's rerelease old games we thought no one would play but actually give enough of a damn to improve it via official translation patches or additional patched-in content"
like. just imagine they released mother 3 or something for this example (its an example) (clam down), fully translated, for like $14, and everyone cared a whole lot for the old being new again
I was always surprised Sega didn't take the Generations engine and make a Sonic 1 - Knuckles collection (or at least made Sonic 2...) - like man would that get my cash.
I was also really hoping for a new Comix Zone on the Wii U or 3DS with the 'bottom' screen being the comic and you could turn makes, rip bits off, crease the page etc to effect the game...
That's all I actually wanted out of Sonic Generations... Sonic All-Stars HD
