ah. the back foot was actually already the same length as the front foot, but I see what you mean now.
how's this?

Ohhh, I see now! Sorry, I was using the dark theme, so I couldn't see the foot properly. Opened it in Aseprite, and now I see it. Sorry. XD

sorry for the lack of updates here, BUT here's some stuff that's still Mario but different enough to warrant a look.

The Thwomp could use some more detail and shading, it looks like a NES sprite compared to the Bob-Omb's and Bullet Bill.

the Thwomp wouldn't use the same kind of shading as the Bob-Omb and Bullet Bill since it's made of stone, and the others are made of metal. I don't really see where I could add more shading to it, though I'll mess around with it to see what I can do.
for comparison's sake:

Perhaps add some cracks or bumps in its design to provide a reason to add more shading? You can also try the Super-Mario-World-put-random-dots-in-places for detail.

I had the dots in it originally, but I felt they were a bit distracting and it looks better smooth. I'll try to figure something out, though. cracks and bumps do sound like a good idea
EDIT:
I tried a bunch of different textures here to see which would look best. I still prefer the smooth one, though.

You wouldn't be the only one. I still prefer the smooth one myself, but, if I had to choose one of the reshaded ones, I'd probably pick the one on the far right.

I say the last one as it reminds me of the Thwomp texture from Mario 64/Mario bros 3.
That or the just plain one.

It might help to instead add some more darker shades to a few of the spikes.
I'm aware that that would make the thwomp the only one with an extra white shade, but it has more white than any other character there.
Especially ones that would have a shadow cast on them by the face itself.
Might help convey that the face is just flat and smooth rather than unshaded if the spikes have more depth to them.

I think he looks too tiny, honestly.

tried both suggestions. I dunno, there's something about the original I still prefer. it might be that the spikes are easily distinguishable because of them being mostly pure white, as adding the extra shade makes it kinda similar to the main blue.
EDIT:
fixed up the one with the added shade and added an edit to the spikes
EDIT2:
this seems to add a bit of depth to it
EDIT3: I decided that it's probably better to have the 2 sizes of Thwomp handy as a part of the sheet, since they come in different sizes. that said, here's a big Thwomp animation.
EDIT4: lots of edits with this one post. just finished up Thwimps, too

Yup. I'm gonna say TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS and stick with the flat-shaded version. I just tried adding some texture myself and I really think it ruined the design. Honestly, I think those Thwomps are perfect! Any more edits past this would just be needless nitpicking.

now that the Thwomps are done, I'm gonna hop right into some tilework. I just redid the pipes I had done previously and like these better, though I'm still indifferent if not moreso now to the curved pipes
the pipe set on the left is actually for a SMB1-esque set of tiles, while the set on the right are regular pipes.
