You are correct - they defaulted to those ports but I wanted to open as few ports as possible and thus left it at one and one. The only roadblock I usually see with the SSL configuration is that it's using a self-signed certificate so if you allow them in your settings, you should be good to go.

The authentication system I'm using here can be set up with pretty much anything that stores user data in a database provided you have access to both and know how to set it up (which wasn't terribly difficult).

Almost two months later and I STILL can't make sense out of these posts.

I was gonna throw another question on and ask the admins if there's any plans to append the IRC URL (irc.vg-resource.com) to the strip of links at the top (Rules/Search/Member List/Help) like the last theme had. It's a lot more accessible than people think, but not many people even know that it exists. :/

It's... Permanently attached to the top of every page on the site (except the mobile forum skin).

...

oh

there it is Smile

(maybe they should be moved to the right of the Logout button, or a way to make the wiki and chat pop out more? Given the way it is now, well, uh... yeah. It was actually to the point where I had to ask about it because I didn't see it without actually looking hard enough...)
It's th same color as th forum link because they're sub l-domains of the forum. Moving it out last Logout wouldn't make sense because the login/logout functions should be the most obvious.

About the SSL, every time I try connecting with it (and afaik ssl is allowed) it gets rejected for some weird reason. Pretty soon the server started instakilling me for reconnecting too fast (stupid HexChat >_<).
HexChat has a weird way of allowing self-signed certificates. I can't quite remember it off-hand but I believe it's either in the network's configuration or in the program's settings. Without seeing the error message, I can't confirm that this is in fact your issue but it seems to be the most likely candidate to me.
I'm not at my computer at the moment to check but I use HexChat and it required you to check the "allow fake certificates" (or something) option
So I checked that box and now HexChat instantly disconnects me. The error I get now is Connection reset by peer (which is false, since my Internet's just fine).
I'll check my connection settings when I get off work and post them for you in about an hour or two.

These are my connection settings. You might have to change the login method to one of the various username and password settings (I remember having to change that the first time I connected but once I logged in for the first time it reverted back to default automatically)

my password is "a" by the way

Ah, yeah. I forgot to check the "use SSL" box; I'll try that later today when I can actually get to HexChat and not have to use my dumbphone.
EDIT: Even after adding that, it still doesn't connect right. Same error message as before.
I'll be auto-joining this now.
So, I've been experimenting with a couple of ideas but I don't currently have enough space on the server to support them. Since the chat is all but dead and I'm not currently using the server that supports it for anything else, I'm going to re-purpose it. I'm making a backup of everything so if there's any real demand to bring it back, I'll be able to but for now, I'm going to remove the chat system from the site.

It was a fun experiment and I definitely learned a lot setting it up but it's time to move on to bigger and better things! More on that once I've made some headway though.
Well, it was fun while it lasted... To bad it died off so quick. Gotta do what you gotta do, I suppose.
