A couple years back I tried to get ideas for a crossover game involving 16-bit characters from the 90's. Now I figured I start smaller since the previous plan seemed a bit overwhelming for me. Therefore, I've narrowed it down to this: a crossover between female characters from various NES/Famicom games.
This is something I've just started. I will start working on the actual gameplay as soon as I can, I just have to finish my college semester and study the various games in order to figure out how each character will play. Overall, I plan to make the game simple, but still playable. It's just a fun little thing I'll work on since it's right up my alley of programming/software engineering.
Here are some characters:
Chi-Chi from Dragon Ball Z: Kyōshū! Saiyan
Konami Girl from Wai Wai World
Moby from Wurm: Journey to the Center of the Earth
Poison from Mighty Final Fight *DON'T EVEN SAY IT TRUST ME I ALREADY KNOW*
Pururun from Kyatto Ninden Teyandee
Sakura from Ninja Jajamaru: Ginga Daisakusen
Sylvie from Kouryu Densetsu Villgust Gaiden
I don't have much time at the moment to work on actual game development, so I'll just drop by every so often to jot down ideas. Hope you look forward to it ~
Attached below is a mockup of the title screen.
so
it's skullgirls
except for little itty bitty 8 bit babes
interesting
Any ideas in terms of like, mechanics? Is it going to be super simple, because NES?

Exactly
!
Partially, I plan for it to play almost exactly like an NES game for purposes of nostalgia and whatnot. But my patience with creating games is complete shit compared to even the people who worked on these old games (who probably did have patience since these games are pretty good for their time), so creating an elaborate Smash Bros. style game is way too far ahead of me right now.
Generally speaking, I didn't grow up with video games like other people did. My experience with gaming has been rather...Cheap. The first game I ever played was Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES which my parents brought home from a thrift shop in like 1999. I had no idea what a N64 was until I played Super Mario 64 at a friend's house in like 2002.
I was fortunate enough to get a GCN at launch for Xmas. Didn't play many games on it though...There were only like two I actually enjoyed, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Super Smash Bros. Melee.
I've always been a Nintendo person, simply put. Never even touched a Halo game. CoD is like not even a game to me. I absolutely love arcade games though. From retro to modern, usually the Japanese machines - I'd give any extra cash to an arcade machine if they still existed around the block from everyone.
Here are some mockups of the title and versus screens. The game is going to play almost exactly like an NES/Famicom game. There are two buttons and the colors will be limited to the colors you're seeing now. Until I learn how to program AI, the game will be a 2P-only game made in Clickteam Fusion 2.5. I will probably export it as a Flash game if it's possible.
Seems good so far, but I think the graphics for the buttons, D-Pad, heart, and the fist could use some work work. Not only would they benefit from better shading, but also the outlines are very jagged. Also, I'm trying to decide if a pattern of sorts in the background for the the character select screen would make it look better or not. Still, since you did say that those are mockups, I don't know for certain if you already know all that or not.
Anyway, the concept is very interesting. Out of curiosity, is that Mama from Doki Doki Panic that I spy?

Thanks ~
The logo is a very rough draft. It's probably better that I draw it by hand :/.
Yes, that is Mama ^^'. I was trying to add one more character to the roster in order to make it even xP. She'll throw vegetables a la Peach in Smash Bros., I guess
.
As a big Teyandee/Pizza Cats fan, I'm excited to see Pururun on the roster. I can give you some ideas of moves for her if you'd like.

That's good to hear, but for each character, the each character will play close to how they do in the game their from
. Thanks though
.
Alright. Just figured I'd offer because I've had a bunch of ideas rattling around in my head for a Teyandee fighting game for a while now. Looking forward to seeing progress!
Please put in Sayo from Pocky and Rocky, heheh.
It existed at the time as KiKi KaiKai.
put Namco's Valkyrie and Kai from Quest of Ki

I will consider ^^. I forgot that they ported it to Famicom Disk System

Valkyrie, probably. Kai?...She jumps really high but can't hit her head on the wall xD. I really don't know the game too well
.
This project looks really interesting ! I'll keep an eye on this thread
Also, for Kai, don't know if it count but she also appeared in Namco X Capcom, so maybe it could help for her moves (if needed)
*shamelessly bumps her own thread*
I'm working on bringing this back from the dead. more or less starting from scratch, so expect most things to be different, cuz I can't remember for the life of me what i worked on before..
