Hello! This is TSR's Official Famitracker thread. You'll find original music and covers from many people here.
First of all,
DOWNLOAD FAMITRACKER in order to enjoy this thread.
While it would certainly be easier for you, there are many downsides to that:
- Famitracker does not export to MP3 directly. This means, I have to generate a WAV first, then convert it to MP3 in another program. With Famitracker, these extra steps are skipped!
- Famitracker files are really small! Even a full fledged 10-minute composition will hardly go over 100kb in filesize. You can even set the program to open the FTM file directly when clicking on the download link, so you don't even need to worry about saving space.
- Famitracker allows you to SEE my composition! A WAV or MP3 doesn't let you mute channels or play with the variables. FTM files on other hand, will allow you to see my composition playing in real time - and you know real time is better than pre-rendered.
- It encourages learning! Being able to see my FTM programming can be inspiring, and you'll learn many tricks if you're interested in chiptunes. Also, it's further proof that my music is NES/Famicom genuine.
- You can export the music to WAV yourself! If you liked the song, you can easily generate a WAV/NSF of it to be played on your favorite music player. Basically, not only it's small, convenient and flexible - it's free!

instead of hogging this all to your own how's about just making this the generalised ftm thread ?
what's even cooler is that we can put the ftms on the attachment system seeing how light the files are

I tried, and tVGR does not accept FTMs as attachments.

I thought I was bad at trackers (except for LSDJ on the Game Boy, which I still use and love) until I gave FamiTracker a REAL shot,
and hey! It's not as hard as I thought it was!
I thought it was annoying to have to use the keyboard as a "piano" to insert the notes, ajgdfgjfdg
I've been using FL Studio to make most of my "8-bit" stuff, and while I respected all limits of the 2A03 chip (and sometimes VRC6)
and it would be possible to be played on a real NES, you couldn't "prove" that since its just an audio file.
So, to begin my FT experiences with "style", this:
Vib-Ribbon (PS1) - Sunny Day
is my first cover done entirely in FT, by ear.
EDIT: Oops! Forgot to tell, while this will work in the original FamiTracker, arpeggios will sound a bit weird.
I used HertzDevil's 0CC-FamiTracker Mod which includes arpeggio schemes, so, yeah.
The next FT thing I'm trying to make is a bit harder, but I'm trying.

I know about the 0CC but I'd rather not use it. It's not the official one and its use is not encouraged in the famitracker forums.

I just realized that Famitracker had N163 support. I thought that it was that they had Sunsoft 5B support but not N163, but nope it's vice versa and I'm ok with that.

I personally don't think Deflemask is that great of a tracker, but I agree on making this a general chiptune thread, I have made a lot of stuff in LSDJ

Why should I download Famitracker? Isn't it easier to give me a MP3?
