Hi everyone! I'm a spriter who was on the Metal Slug Database (before enomosiki disappeared...) and now I reside on SpriteWars. I'm kinda trying to find out if anyone from the MSDB is still here. Enough of that though. Here's my work. Credit to ASCAWR for most of the weapons, and someone who's name escapes me for the original space shuttle. Everything else is custom. A lot of the sprites look metal slug sized, and that's because they were the references I used (typical reference for human sprites most of the time!).

IMPORTANT!!! Do not steal these. If you rework them, give me credit for the base.

This is a garage sheet of custom vehicles. I was taking requests, and I still am! If you want me to add a vehicle or a number of vehicles, just comment below. These are free use. Credit is appreciated, but not necessary.

These are United Space Command (That's right, USC. Not UNSC) sprites inspired by Brink of Alienation. Purely customized. The pistol and knife are custom, the carbine was made from the ASCAWR sheet. These are free use. Credit is appreciated, but not necessary.

These are Mafia Spooks. ASCAWR made the guns, Skurge made the hat, and the shield was ripped from Metal Slug. These are free use. Credit is appreciated, but not necessary.

Task Force 100 (Also known as Task Force X) sprites. This is my faction in the SpriteWars Global Campaign. I promised I'd make it possible to make millions of different combo's for my sprites. Give credit if you use these!

And now, my alien faction. The Kaithe! They're purely good guys. Why? They just are. they're aliens, not humans. Credit to ASCAWR for the sniper, and the carbine I reworked. The energy machete, flash launcher and the pistol are made by me. Give credit if you use these!

American Airlines?? US SpaceWays anyone? I forget who made this original space shuttle design. The only thing I did was paint it. This is NOT a sprite of mine, just a bit of a recolor. (It was free use when I found it. If someone stole this from you, it was not me!)

A Zumwalt Class Guided Missile Destroyer. Credit to MikeMurdock for the lower part of the hull. Give credit if you use this!

Intrepid Class Assault Interdictor Frigate. Space battles anyone?? I made this 100% custom from scratch. Give credit if you use this!

And now, a bunch of military vehicles. V-22 Osprey, MRAP, JLTV, M1 Abrams, GCV, F/A-18D Super Hornet and an M1129 Stryker Mortar Carrier. Completely custom designs. The M2HB and M240 are from the ASCAWR sheet (Side note! Please don't be offended by the confederate flag that can be put on the MRAP, it was a Dukes of Hazzard joke. I'm not racist!). Give credit if you use these!

And here's a few backgrounds to toss at ya. I made these from some stuff I ripped (and also one is purely custom). The aleutian island one is edited from...shit I forget who originally made it. These are free use. Credit is appreciated, but not necessary.

I like the concepts behind these graphics, and how some of the smaller items are drawn and shaded, but to be honest... I think some of the larger ones look a bit repetitive. Maybe you should try shading some of the vehicles and walls a bit more, in order to make it feel like the lighting is a bit more interesting?

I don't know. I'm not an artist or sprite drawer, but something seems like it could do with a bit more work here.

I hear that a lot. However, lighting is position dependant. Therefore, a lot of people say "fuck it" to the sophisticated stuff (not everyone, but a lot of spriters I know...except Commander Evil. He's the freaking boss at shading). I do dithering and basic shading, and it usually is good for the sprites. Though the osprey...it definitely needs work.

EDIT: added the Mafia sheet
If you are going to shade, I'd suggest using much darker shades though. Many of your shaded vehicles incorporate very pale shading and along with dithering mean there is very little visual effect and the shading is almost invisible on many of them. You should try and avoid having a straight band of shading on the bottom. The sun would have to be perfectly above for that, and in that instance the side would still be darker shaded because of the lighting angle in that case.

It is hard to explain shading unfortunately...

Here is one example to look at anyway. These ones are a bit like yours, note how dark the shading is compared to the base colour, and how on the larger boats and vehicles the shaded is "curved" rather than straight across: http://www.spriters-resource.com/ds/scri...eet/27414/

I don't expect you to copy the style on that sheet but it should give you an idea of what you could do. You at least want to make sure the base colour of the vehicle and the shading is quite clearly separate though.

Honestly I just got into shading, so I was hoping to get some feedback. Thanks for that :1

To everyone: How do they look (other than shading-wise. I know I need to work on it)?
The reason the shading looks off is because you have black outlines and you use gradients.

Do you suggest using different color shades and not gradients?

It's not really color that is going to change this, though that is part of it. The real problem is that you use a gradient no matter where the lightsource is coming from... it's unrealistic. I suggest looking up pixel art tutorials for shading. One that is for a rock, but is still very relevant, can be found here.
