Crash Bandicoot should have been reinvented as part of the Skylanders franchise...

Hebereke and co! These guys originally starred in an excellent NES metroidvania called "Ufouria: The Saga", but quickly faded into obscurity because the game was released so late in the NES' lifespan. Apparently, they later received some subpar puzzle games but they never saw another platformer release. So sad.

It's the...other way around (Hebereke came first) but yeah. :I
The cat in the kigurumi gave way to the best character in Ufouria: Freeon Leon.
I'm surprised no one mentioned that sooner (but uhm, to be fair Ufouria did come out stateside on the Wii U virtual console!!!!)

Bomberman. He had it going pretty great until Hudson Soft folded, and subsequently screwed over, by Konami.
...Are these characters really forgotten if we're all reminiscing about them?

The first one that came to my mind is Banjo and Kazooie. Had a really nice time with N64.
Honorable mention to street of rage.

Jack and Ryu from the Super Chinese series.
Only three of the RPGs were localized; Super Chinese 2 on Famicom localized as Little Ninja Brothers, Super Chinese World on Super Famicom localized as Super Ninja Boy, and Super Chinese Land 2 on Gameboy localized as Ninja Boy 2. Super Chinese 3 on Famicom, Super Chinese Worlds 2 and 3 on Super Famicom, and Super Chinese Land 3 on Gameboy were not brought over here.
These games combine the action/beat-'em-up genre with RPG and adventure, and with some bosses, turn-based RPG Combat. Super Chinese World 3 on Super Famicom has a unique feature that allows the player to choose between action RPG gameplay, or turn-based RPG gameplay at the start.
