So if I were to rip sprites from a game called "Five nights at F***boy's" or "mad father" would that be acceptable? I only ask because some of the stuff seems to be taken from other websites and such. Some copy righted, the other's I think are kind of like public domain, and the others may be original. I'd have to check for sure in both games for sure. Oh and it is okay to use the f word? I censored it because I didn't want to get in trouble because that is the real name though.
When it comes to RPG Maker games, I would ask first if you can contact the developer. I believe SableSugar doesn't care about the sprites being reposted (otherwise I think she would have compressed FNAFB ), but don't quote me on it.
yeah, I'd say RPG Maker is some dangerous territory indeed.
I actually have an account on one of the forums so as to follow one of the res staff.
The developer of any RPG Maker game is definitely not the only hurdle.
The official resources are under what as far as I'm concerned is a draconian EULA that basically says they're only to be used in RPG Maker. I also don't like its wording as to WHO owns those resources. The way I am reading it, Enterbrain possesses all ownership and creative credit of anything their Res Staff makes. Sounds to me like artists get screwed ,there.
As for as sprite-ripping is concerned, posting or re-using any of those "official" resources would technically be breaching their EULA, assuming I am reading that correctly. Whether that would actually have repercussions here, I cannot say. It very easily could. Then again, besides most users never read EULAs, ripping in itself probably breaches many EULAs, since a lot of commercial software has "you may not de-compile or attempt in any way to reverse-engineer this software" written-in the EULA by default.
So, as Skyla said, ask the creator (or try)
But beware those... certain resources.

You're not. Basically the rundown for the RPG Maker RTP material is if you purchased the software, you have the right to use the material made with or that came with it as you please, as long as you do not alter the core functions of the .exe and as long as graphics are used for game creation purposes only.
Distributing the RTP is pointless, however, as any RPG Maker program, even demos, comes with the full RTP unlocked, and is never locked or hidden from you, even after the demo expires, so it's a readily available source. But that's not the issue here.
Now... Mad Father, if I'm remembering right, was made on Wolf RPG Editor, which I believe was freeware anyway? I would still look to ask the creator, seeing as a good majority of his graphics were self made, and the game is distributed for free.

i recall reading something different, i'll have to check.
later, as stuff to do today.
(Aren't holidays exciting?)
there are many free edits of it, too
makes sense, thx
I do know RPG maker games like OFF and Yume nikki have sprite sheets on here (If i remember correctly...). I don't think asking for permission would be a problem until it becomes one. It's not like everyone asked nintendo if they could rip all these mario game sprites. I mean honestly if I wanted to steal the easy to get rpg maker sprites for a fangame it woudn't be so hard. I also know that that in the fan game super f***ing mario they had the freddy sprite in it as a character. I don't know.....

I'll stay away from official resources. So that means anything original and unique to the game or basically public domain ( probably won't though) I could rip right?

Yeah Mad Father is made on Wolf RPG Editor. I have never used it, I wonder how that would work out for me in ripping. I'll sure a guy who took a bunch of other people's stuff to make a game could understand why someone would want to do the same to his game and characters otherwise they're a hypocrite then. But I'll see if I can contact the developers.
I have used it briefly, but I've never attempted to encrypt a game with it. It may possibly use a different compression from RPG Maker.

Starting today I have 2 weeks of free time... I'll check it sometime then.
So I figured out to rip all the sprites (and everything else) from Mad Father. Bad news is hosting it and distributing it on the spriter's resource isn't going to fly.... He prohibits any distribution of practically anything from the game on his website. It sucks because I went through all the trouble to get them just to find that out. Same for his misao game. At least I can draw them in animal crossing new leaf or something. I know that spriter's resource abides by creator's request to postpone rippings of content from games like undertale or just respecting the creator's wishes not to have it ripped.

You should do that even if it's not for here.

To be truthful I was thinking about it. I am not sure what legality issues or punishments would be. I thought about just trying to post it here to see what would happen. But I don't want to get in trouble. I am thinking the worst they could do is a cease and desist but I am no lawyer. Plus the guy is Japanese( I think, his website is Japanese.), assuming he doesn't know much English then I doubt he would even find it ever.

That is not a good attitude to have. Many Japanese artists stop sharing their work because people from other countries take that attitude. Heck, my favorite spriter that made all the Kaduki sprites for the RPG Maker battle system of the same name stopped and took down his entire web site for this exact reason.
If an artist or a game developer requests that you not repost their stuff, then you don't repost their stuff, period.

Okay I won't. But my online ethics are always questionable. Actually all my ethics are questionable... Not because I was asked, but because I'd rather not get into trouble in any form. I already have them all so I don't need anyone to rip them. So if I want to make sprite art from in it animal crossing then I am going to. It's practically the only reason I even use the spriter's resource. I had to rip the whole undertale set of sprites just to draw them in animal crossing because Toby Fox asked people to wait a year. Let me repeat that I
WILL NOT post them to the spriter's resource. It's still a shame that it will take a lot of jumping through hoops to look for the sprites because nobody is allowed to host it. Sorry if I made you mad.......
