Your palette could use some work. The neon cyan is a little overbearing and blends with the white on my monitor. Tone down the saturation of that color and try adding some shading, perhaps?
Also, you used the circle tool for the body. Try going for something a little more organic like a slightly oblong oval.

Yes! That's a great step in the right direction. Brighten up your shading a bit, add some white to the feet and you've got yourself a winner.
