You saying I could do Feud, just not as a proper Smash game but an "original" clone?
I'd... personally rather try to make something different first.
The game I'm making and focusing on now is here too, FYI.

My two cents:
I wouldn't throw all of the work you've done so far on this away, but I would save it for another time in the future. TheShyGuy made a very valid point: A lot of know-how and technical things are involved to make something exactly like this. It's always better to start off small and gain knowledge and experience before shooting for something really big.
As for the copyright and legal involved issues: you can still have the "smash experience" and such, but you have to go about it differently than how you were currently going for. You can have characters that are references or semi-similar to already known characters... but they should be different and semi-original. Take the steam pc game: "Devil's Dare" (Note: this game has 2D monochrome gore, so it may be NSFW for some) It's a beat-em up game with characters with attacks that pay homage to, and are very inspired by, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Legend of Zelda/Golden Axe/Contra. But the characters themselves are original and different enough to not be blatant copies of the actual characters they are modeled after.
Another example is the steam pc game Rivals of Aether; which is literally smash, but with original characters.
You can also take spiritual successor games as an example of how to go about making something similar to what you want, but able to do so without getting hassled legally.
So as for now, I'd work on a few original games and brushing up on programming and such. Who knows, maybe your own original characters will get very popular and well-known and you can have them duke it out in a fighting game and thus not have to worry at all about IPs or DMCA.

Can you explain those screenshots on your dA page?
I thought you cancelled Feud!

I had. But the problem is... I hated myself for cancelling it. So I brought it back. Just out of love for doing it. I may not know 100% how to code attacks yet. but not a problem. I will figure it out.
And with that said, here's a few more images.
First off, Mario got an updated render.
Next up: Main Menu is in progress. Mario is there for Special Feud only, he's there now only to test how he'd look (not final).
Next: Character Select Screen, with working portraits, names and player colours (red = P1) (WIP) Obviously, other fighters hidden for now. Switching from FEUD to TEAM BATTLE also works, with announcer calls and all!
Next: Colouring via Material scripting. Has many uses, not just this. I am also working on realtime material switching for fighters too, for Metal and recolours, to save disk space and eliminate duplicate files in the project. Alternate costumes with their own alternate models, obviously, can't work this way but I have another system to deal with them.
Finally: A test of the Damage Meter / HUD. portraits, name, damage % and series icon all work and are coloured properly.

Last ever post in this thread.
I've decided once and for all to discontinue development. This time for real. No more going back and forth. But I decided to compromise by offering you all a little gift: the entire project folder with all my assets in it!

Get it fast before the copyright nazis take it down!!

The game has returned, and I'm more dedicated than ever to develop it!

I'm really looking forward this project. Don't you DARE to drop it again, though .

Oh, as I've said, the only one who can make me drop it? Nintendo. But thankfully Smash fangames are relatively safe ground. Crusade and Flash/2 have stayed for a long time. I have no other intention of dropping it~

Accidentally deleted the photo album, so I recreated it and updated the link.
Added a pic of the sound test. I'll post it here too in case.
