Fourth? I only see three colors there man. Outline, skin, and pants.

Anyway, I'll separate Gnarly Gnome's face from the rest of his body.

Also I can't decide what color I want the guys pants to be. What do you guys think?

And finally I can't decide what to call our hero too.

...Sorry... I guess I counted wrong, or the fact that they were white too confused me...

Anyway, maybe you should make his pants red or blue. Those two colors stand out against many other colors pretty well, and then people won't mistake them for diapers...
Sticking to the palette and 4 colours a sprite doesn't mean NES limits. There's the sprites on screen limit, per scan line, colours per scan line, loads of other complex shit.
I don't like the character design at all.
Its way to simple and boring. Just because it's using NES limits, doesn't mean it has to be so plain.
The hands on the gnome are facing sideways, as opposed to facing forward.

Well what more can I do with a headless character?

My idea originally came after Halloween with the story of Sleepy Hollow. The idea of a headless character picking up objects and using them as heads and then throwing them was pretty original. I must admit I didn't spend a whole lotta time coming up with an idea for our main character, I still don't have a name for him. But you know, without a head there's not much you can get out of design with him.

Anyway I have updated the first post. Also here's the next level I'm working on. Wacky West!

I had originally started this level with Indian looking enemies. But I realized that would be a death wish.

So I change them into outlaw enemies but I still kept the Indian looking objects.

The Jack-o-lantern is the end of the level object you must destroy to beat the level.
What are you making this in?
Not sure. Years ago tried making a game myself once before. I gave up because I didn't know where to go from downloading different game making programs suggested to me.

Years later I helped other people make sprites for their game projects but I never fully made one myself. Until now. I hope I can get this to become a reality. But if there's one thing I've learned, you can't do it yourself. Like I said, after I've made the resources, hopefully I can get some people to work with me on the rest.
Mind if I mess with the sprites in an IDE? I'll PM you the outcome.
Sure go ahead. I never mind people using my sprites.
