Many people have heard about and are fans of the Alternative Rock band Imagine Dragons, and they love their music. However, yours truly isn't a big fan of them personally, mostly because the songs of theirs that I listened to didn't really give off a rock vibe to me.Blank This is where you guys come in:

Can anyone link me to a song by Imagine Dragons that puts the "Rock" in "Alternative Rock" (I.E. actual guitars and no Techno drums.)? If you do, I'd be grateful...just keep in mind that I'll probably critique the songs when I do listen to them. Wink

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread BTW
i dunno much about them other than Radioactive, which i guess is alright but i'm not too crazy about pop. i guess it would be interesting to see what else they've done that wasn't a big hit but still good music.
Well, I've only listened to 4 of their songs (Radioactive, like you mentioned, Demons, On Top of the World, and It's Time.), but none of them really sound like rock to me (In fact the beginning of It's Time sounds like something that would fit in a My Little Pony episode.) despite many fans and critics saying that they are.

Hopefully someone will show us a song that actually sounds like rock music, complete with guitars and no techno drums; last time I checked, rock music does not have techno instruments.
I personally don't really look at or concisder artists for their genre of music, i just care that it's appealing to my ears, and ideally not annoyingly catchy.

Demons is prob my favorite, and tbh, I haven't heard anything besides it and Radioactive. I'm generally reluctant about following artists as a whole. (well, when it comes to entertainment, especially music) So far, I wouldn't say Imagine Dragons is my favorite, but it's nothing to do with their genre/style, which I actually knew nothing about till this thread.

What I will say is the 'pure' form of a style or genre probably wouldn't include techno and stuff, but as times progress, the old and the new get mixed. However, it usually is a sub-style/genre or derivative of it, rather than an actual component of the main branch. I recall this from taking World Music. I don't remember quite which country, or the third one, but for example, there were three main styles of music in the area: Traditional, Neo-Traditional, and as I said, I forgot the rest. One is how it would originally have been played, whereas the other may add new instruments or stylistic elements to it, while building upon the traditional version. It's been a while, honestly, so my memory is pretty fuzzy.

Another thing to consider is art in general, has very blurred lines drawn across the board. There's no official definition of either art or music. It's literally "something that is intended to be, and is interpreted as such" There might have been a third property, but I forgot what that was. Either way, it doesn't narrow the results down at all.

I can't speak for genres/styles, themselves, but the derivative forms do tend to have some room to make changes.

Regardless, unless it was totally different from what they say it is (like, singing about how great the devil is and calling it "Christian" music...just to give an extreme example) , I don't think I'd care much about the genre or !genre than the way the music actually sounds, but that's just me. I might be annoyed, but I doubt I'd complain that "well, technically, it's not this" It's also entirely likely someone got mixed-up. As many genres/styles, and as many obscure tiny details about each one that are easy to miss, it's not inconceivable for the artists, themselves to get mixed-up. (and no, not saying this did happen, only that it can)

Again, I never judged Imagine Dragons for their supposed genre/style, but I'm not entirely sure I ever picked-up a rock vibe when listening. I'll have to more closely examine that later...but then again, I honestly don't care, because I judge by the sound, not the label it is classified by.

Music can mix multiple genres. Musical genres are also highly subjective in this way - the fact is that I feel like you're only making this topic to say "I don't like Imagine Dragons because it isn't hardcore enough and I don't like people saying it's rock because I like rock music Sad"... Which is kind of sad that you're unhappy people enjoy a band and want to give a label for genre.

Music is very hard to give a definite genre, just as with games it can be particularly difficult to give a genre too. Tetris and a word search are two completely different kinds of games, but are both considered puzzles. A "techno" band can be so dramatically different it isn't even worth comparing.

Just enjoy a band for the band, not the genre.
Radiohead has plenty of tracks that don't use traditional rock instruments, but they're still considered one of the greatest alternative rock bands of all time.

when it comes to any media, there's something out there for everyone. some things you may not like more than others, and that's perfectly fine. c:

Actually many rock bands did in the 80s.

Regarding Imagine Dragons, I think they're more pop than rock, not sure why they're described as alternative rock. Not really appealing to me.
yeah they're like indie rock with a lot of pop/alternative elements. it's kind of like a quirky genre because they (and their userbase) are aware that they really don't fit into any particular genre.
once they sound like mainstream pop rock then it's all over. their critics will complain and cry that they've shedded their indie sound and they now sound "too mainstream". if you're looking for something like that, check out like Coldplay or maybe progressive rock like Coheed and Cambria or something I guess. but like don't try to make imagine dragons sound like something they're not.

you know, there's also like nothing wrong with admitting that you like to listen to indie rock lmfao

btw

echoing enchlore here; 80's rock is like defined by synth (but also hair)

but um do people still actually unironically call electronic music "techno"
like i imagine techno is like shitty "oontz oontz oontz" beats with a lousy tempo. like eastern european pop. can i get a confirmation from serbia on their domestic pop
