If the leaks congruent with the confirmed info hold true, it seems that the standalone portable will be weaker than docking it and playing on TV.
The new pro controller looks nice. As for the left controller piece- I hope they make a version with an actual d-pad on it.
The tablet aspect was what I expected more or less.

I can see myself getting it for the usual important games (Zelda, New 3D Mario, ...Metroid) and whatever else is genuinely worth playing.

I'll give it a 4/5 breddy okay :DDDDDD until I know more about the NS's overall limitations compared tho the WiiU.
if i were keeping up with modern games, i would totally be sold on the switch. it's great to know that nintendo hasn't seized their creativity when it comes to consoles. it would be fantastic to play the same games hooked up to a TV or on the go. safe to assume that it's the first official console of all time that has such a feature. (i guess there's ps vita/psTV but that was very recent)
and hey, while i probably won't be able to own a switch, maybe after march 2017 they'll start dropping prices for the wii-u? >.>
I'm on board with this, so long as the clip-in controller pieces don't slide away while I'm gaming. The new pro controller looks like it fixes all of my issues with the Wii U model... and hopefully they build some kind of clip-on controller with side buttons so the DS emulator can work a little better. I just need to know that it's going to be at least as powerful as the Wii U, and we're good.
Can't say I care much for the name. I get what they were going for, but when I hear the term "Switch" used alone as a noun, my mind jumps immediately to this kind of switch.

See most portables don't need a fan but consoles do. Will they be able to fit a proper fan in that really thin screen? If not. How wil they keep it from overheating?

And this thing looks like it can suck up huge amounts of battery life.

If I remember correctly I'm pretty sure it's confirmed that the devkit models do have a fan in them.
Granted, that doesn't necessarily mean the final model will as well but I'm pretty sure I saw vent holes on it in the video. Don't have it in front of me to confirm.

My biggest issues are personally battery life and the fact that it's probably too big to realistically be a "portable".

Unless I can fit this thing in my pocket it's pretty much worthless to me in that aspect.
I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually a release a "Mini-Switch" that can be more comfortably carried around.
I feel like I could go on and on critiquing the pros and cons of all the individual features that have been revealed to us. But to be honest, none of that really matters. When it really comes down to it, the only thing that really matters is the game library, not the hardware. And in that regard, Nintendo hasn't been doing so hot as of late, which doesn't instill me with a lot of confidence for this new platform. The Wii U really only had four or five good games, and most of them weren't even first party. Regardless of whether the new console is going to be great or terrible, my faith in Nintendo is kind of at an all time low at the moment.

Long story short, I'm not buying this thing until Nintendo can convince me it's going to have a really decent lineup of titles.

Um. WHAT? I have a ton of really great games on the Wii U.

The Wonderful 101
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Super Mario 3D World
Mario Kart 8
Super Mario Maker
Splatoon
Super Smash Bros.
Bayonetta 2
Pokken Tournament
Hyrule Warriors
Yoshi's Wooly World
Rayman Legends
Pikmin 3

And even games like Nintendo Land, Game & Wario, Captian Toad Treasure Trackers and Lego City were pretty fun.

So what are you talking about? Let me guess? It didn't have Metroid. Well neither did the N64. Personally I had a blast with the Wii U and so did many other people who owned it.
Do you think I'm really so petty that lack of a single franchise is all it takes for me to diss an entire console library? I merely was not impressed with as many games as you were, that is all.

Plus honestly, even if I cared for every game you named, that list is still incredibly small compared to any list of good games made of literally any other single successful Nintendo console or handheld. For every console I own I have about two shelves full of great games I enjoyed. For the Wii U, it doesn't even fill up a quarter of a shelf. As someone who has to buy every console and game they own with their own money, it just feels a bit like I was ripped off is all. That might not actually be technically true, but that's how it feels in my gut, and it has me wary of Nintendo at the moment. It's merely my personal feeling is all.
Holy shit these are some BIG WORDS comin from some nintenda fanboys (ps. welcome back iceman)
Let me high-five Koopaul as I begin my descent into Fanboy Hell and talk shit to other fanboys about their bad opinions

How is this even a problem. Use mobile device best practices and you'll probably get a good 8 hours on this thing just like you should be doing with your phone or 3DS on long trips. Also, just get pants with bigger pockets and more room. Buy some UFO pants.

Perfect.

I don't think it's meant to be a true "portable" - like I'm pretty sure the 3DS has a little more life left in it. If they DO phase out their portable development, there's ummm...there's...your phone, with those upcoming...Nintendo...franchise games? :')

OK seriously though given the price of this thing will probably be like in the $400 range you probably won't wanna take it too far out of the house anyway - but if you assumedly were to, you'd probably at the least want to at least
- buy a protective case
- and put it in a messenger bag or backpack of some sort

- if you don't want to do either of these, i guess this thing's just gonna live its life in the dock, where i plan to leave mine (which should also prove handy for carrying it)
Really, if anything this will be the ultimate console for travel, given its footprint and its loudly-touted eSports scenario used in the trailer (it means pros and teams can just bring a tablet and dock their systems into a "championship dock" and go head to head)
I usually bring my Ouya when I travel and I plan on buying an Nvidia Shield TV, but now that this was revealed, maybe it won't hurt to hold off for now on purchasing that in favor of this.

Like I'm hoping Nintendo's finally taking a hint SOMEWHERE from Sony and Microsoft and plan on giving the device an "Android Channel" or something that lets you use the thing like a normal tablet and enjoy using the thing for media. That'd be the Absolute Tits. Like, if they're branching out into mobile gaming, how on earth would you NOT allow your tablet device to play your mobile titles? You're shooting yourself in the foot if you don't.

Alright I'm gonna admit jumping onto the launch bandwagon for a Nintendo console (or any console, Sony or Microsoft even) nowadays is really not a great idea, but I'm probably going to aggressively imply right now that about a year into its life when Nintendo's announcing a bunch of home runs for the console and we've got more details (and deals!) on actual games (like holiday 2017) you're probably gonna want this thing.

like reading this i'm wondering if you bought the wii u at launch which, at that point, yeah you probably screwed yourself. like a year in, you could grab a bunch of good titles in the $30 range and the console itself was marked down $50. that was a pretty good time to get in on the wii u (for the consumer, at least) and they were still announcing some pretty solid titles. like i'd think if you were buying consoles with your own Dollars, it just makes sense to be a late adopter to a console for entirely this reason

i think an even better time to get in on the wii u is once the switch comes out, because you can Bet Your Bippy that the switch will probably not be able to play your Wii U titles natively

Oh, yeah - weirdly enough I want to see the third-party accessories for this thing. I want to see HORI protective hard cases and screen protectors for this thing and then yeah probably I'll bite
The device looks solid but I'm with Jer. Nintendo has disappointed me with both the Wii U and 3DS - but I can see how they didn't disappoint other people. As somebody who works with games to make a living, I have to now purchase this product. And I can deal with that, it's my job.

But what I've learned over the last few years is that I personally do not play games on the go. I simply don't see a feasible way of doing it.
When I'm going somewhere, I intend to be there for a while with other people. If it's to play games, they will probably already have the console and game in question we want to play, otherwise they would come to my place and we'd play whatever it is over here. If I'm taking a train or a plane, then I kind of get that - but how often do you seriously think I'm jet setting around the world or getting a train somewhere? And why am I doing that besides to go hang out with friends or go to an event that would likely put the item at risk of being damaged when I'm there?

It just doesn't suit my lifestyle. The important thing for me is that, as a home console, it has games that I personally will enjoy and the controller doesn't suck dick. So far, I'm unsure on those aspects because nothing has been announced and I've not put my hands on the controller. So far I can see that using one of the Joy-Con pads sideways looks like it would be incredibly uncomfortable for my burly mid-20s man hands.

I've bought just over 10 games on the Wii U. I played maybe 4 of them for more than a couple hours. 2 of them were ports. The others were super boring. I think I'm just not the target audience for Nintendo games, and I'd rather play multiplatform titles on a console that isn't quite so irritating to play on. I like my PS4 controller, I like my 360 controller, I can deal with the Xbone controller if I REALLY have to.
The other main thing besides region locking, is what would the console exclusives look like.  The wait and see approach has definitely been working for the past two console generations, considering how slow and almost empty their exclusives have been for the systems.  Getting an entire system for just one or two games is completely asinine, and so far the only thing on this I'd want to try is the new Zelda, but I'm not getting a whole system just for that.  So what else will they offer us?

As for third party, and especially multiplatform titles, no one's going to want to buy this thing just for Skyrim, which has been out forever now, HD version or not. The best question to ask here is:  What exclusives will the 3rd parties offer?  If everything they do is multiplatform, that won't help the Switch, especially if there are going to be Steam versions of the same thing.

All these questions, only time will answer for us.  If history is any indication, we should have our answers...one year into the console's life.

I think I'm actually of the opposite opinion on this. One of the biggest problems with Nintendo consoles is that whenever a company releases a multi-platform title, ninety-percent of the time the Nintendo console is the one console that doesn't get it. This creates a huge problem for people like me that can't afford to purchase multiple machines every generation, because now we have to gamble if it's worth it more to buy a console solely for the Nintendo exclusives, or if it's better to get a console that's going to get everything else.

If Nintendo can create a console that guarantees that it will receive most multi-platform games, suddenly the need to make a choice is eliminated, as there is only one smart choice to be made. Granted, I still hope that Nintendo will see some 3rd party titles exclusive to their system, but as far as marketing goes, even if all they can get is multi-platform titles out of them, it will still be a huge boon for their sales figures. It would definitely get me to buy one sooner than later.
Well the thing is, most people already have computers capable of decent levels of gaming. So if multiplatform titles are all that come out and they're all on PC, why buy a new console when they can just get the game on PC? This is the aspect I was referencing.
