A Super New Nintendo 3DS... I hope that a new handheld will come with a real innovation, and a power that allow anti-aliasing and more than a skybox and a grass texture :

I don't think it's really fair to compare two completely different genres and art-styles of games here. The two games are aiming for completely different goalposts.

Yes I agree, comparaison isn't fair at all, it isn't the same game, nor same type, I used pictures just to illustrate my point roughly.
Developers can do very beautiful graphics also on low powered hardware, but here, Pokemon X/Y graphics are derisory.
Well yeah they'd also probably have better luck on a screen that isn't 240p, causing those somehwat-better-res textures to still look low-res and terrible in screenshots - whereas the Gamecube is able to output an image that's double that, lol
But otherwise using background textures, they can use real polygons trees well optimized, and a grass shader instead of a grass circle.
And, yes a gamecube output 420p on a tv screen, but the 3DS output 240p on a small screen, so the dpi are higher on the 3DS screen (132 PPI)(excluding awful screenshots) than an 420p tv (~20 PPI), and pixels are more seen on TV Gamecube than 3DS.
I really think that 3DS developers can make better quality/good-looking graphics than Gamecube.
Again, I think that's just a poor choice of game
I think part of the reason Pokemon's backgrounds look like garbage is because they spent a lot of time and effort on the character models (didn't they make them purposefully too-high-quality just for future-proofing or something? I remember hearing that somewhere) - they didn't leave a lot of polygons to spare, mate, and who the hell gives a rip about the background in a turn-based RPG anyways. What matters is that the two animals beating the crap out of each other look fine and don't run at only 5 FPS, which, well, they got the first part, at least...
(Optimization might help but Game Freak aren't good at that, apparently.)
Games like Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, meanwhile, look goddamn fantastic, and Smash 3DS is also quite a splendid looking game as far as I'm concerned. The Phoenix Wright games look incredible and it's simply impressive that both Donkey Kong Country Returns and Xenoblade Chronicles are even on the device. The Zelda ports also look wonderful. The 3DS has some very nice-looking games, but yeah, the lower resolution (even with more DPI, it's STILL a lower resolution) is not going to do them any favours.
With hardware like the 3DS, it's more about using a good artstyle than processing power, I'd say. (Not to mention as bad as Rare was at making games sometimes, they were undoubtedly visual pioneers - comparing their games to others in the looks department just ain't fair.)
I wonder if the Switch will actually have VR support?
i wouldn't doubt them starting to mess around with VR technology. what we've seen so far from the gaming industry are mostly experiments.
Anyone else excited for 12 hours from now? At least I think it is, I didn't read the time zone.
Given that several retail websites have been advertising this event time, the system and games maybe be open for reservation tonight.
I'm super excited for the Switch news. This looks like the most innovative and interesting console I've seen in years.
This is also an important moment for Nintendo. If the Switch is a disaster then their future as a console manufacturer will be put into question.
I'm personally hoping to see a Metroid game of any kind, Pikmin 4, the merging of handheld and console development, The brand new 3D Mario game, and a substantial 3rd party lineup.
I guess there's no big chance of having ports from XboxOne & PS4. You can't transfer the powerful innards of big console into a tablet (cooling is one of the issues). Also it's still a handheld and the battery of the Switch can only do so much, even the most powerful smartphones/phablets can't display 720p/1080p with high details for more than a few hours.
Plus I don't think people are happy about a huge tablet with low battery power. My predicition: There will be many first party games for launch and some stuff from Nintendo's buddies, also "Nindies" from the eshop, but the future... this console will probably share the fate of the Wii U in terms of content. And since PS5 will enter the life cycle of the Switch in a few years... oh well.
Casuals will still use their smartphones to beat dead time and core gamers will either go for Xbox/PS4 or the more powerful PC. And while I'm excited for the Switch too and hope it will do well, I can't see where its place will be.

I mean, the Nvidia Shield had some exclusives that were pretty new at the time of launch - Metal Gear Rising, Borderlands, etc. running natively on Linux/Android - but solely through exclusivity deals and only on the Shield.
If the Switch can handle UE4, I don't think it'd be unrealistic to expect the newest KH or the FF7 remake, for example - the Switch is basically Nvidia's Shield tablet, so I wouldn't be shocked if it was a beefier version of the K1 with super-duper Nintendo exclusivity
This translator is not up to the task tonight, I can hear this guy sighing as Suda51 talks up a storm. I REALLY want to know about No More Heroes, I have no idea what he actually said.
For a minute there I thought the Mario game was going to be a sequel to Mario Is Missing...
Luigi Is Lost...
The ones I'm looking forward to the most are, LoZ Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and Super Mario Odyssey.
Not sure about Arms (Such an original title), but I like the character designs. Very wacky.
