That's actually a much better improvement. The shading seems pillowy still, though, especially the green.

Yes, it's an improvement in the right direction!
Here's my suggestion on how I would improve your sprite:
First, no pillowshading. Simple one colour shading, if any.
Second, the wing is making the sprite's readability difficult, so we'll have to rethink it later. For now, it'll have to go.
Third, I inspired myself from various Hal artworks for the feathers, colour, beak and eye.
Fourth, I looked at bird references for the wings and feet.
Fifth, I modeled the design after toucans and with Hal's Rio appearance in mind.
I hope it helps

The point of those sprites I edited are not for you to use them, but to point you in the right direction to improve on your current sprite; so I'll give you neither the last frame body parts nor the fourth frame parts. You have to make a new version.
To reiterate my critique, your design has to be clear and simple: the viewer must be able to recognise the different parts of your sprite at first glance: the wing, the foot, the beak, the eye, the crest, the tail, etc. It will make animating easier, too.

It's better, but you'd learn more if you made it from scratch, instead of editing my version. The sprite is on the small side now, so you'll have to make it bigger.
Keep going!
Keep going!
