sticking to the way you do things is okay and all but I feel like more time is spent overall on using featureless apps. The end result can be good and all, but does it match the effort and endurance test you had to go through to make this single piece?

If you have a bigger reason not to update, for example a shit pc, personal unintuitiveness or objective lack of quality, that's something I can understand, but a shitton of alternatives today only improve the way you deal with pixelart. This is why I see no reason to keep yourself so tightly tied to such app.

ofc no transition is smooth and without its problems, but you can always use graphicsgale or aseprite in tandem with mspaint, then you'll learn to use them both efficiently, eventually replacing it altogether.
Exactly what Gors said. This is why I don't get people who refuse to use proper code editors. Having a program that brings up code completion, automatically indents, and can generate chunks of code for you is objectively better. Using Notepad might feel more h4xx0rz but it reduces your productivity and quality.

It's the same thing for spriting. If GraphicsGale or Aseprite can do things in 2 minutes that would take you 20 in Paint, with the same end result, then using them is overall better.
if you want something that's very similar to paint, clickteam fusion 2.5 has a free version and (like all clickteam game dev software) it allows you to draw pixel art (pencil, line, curve, fill bucket, shapes, spray, etc.), AND you can also animate it in the easiest way possible. take my word for it cuz i've used their software for years now.
I dont sprite that often anymore but when i do i use paint, and when i draw, i use photoshop, its not that i dont know how to use it, i just dont like it for spriting, i like paint, its just that simple, is it wrong to have preferences? Sad
no, it's not

consider the following though, if you spend like 5 minutes every day with this you'll learn a more capable tool than just mspaint
Funnily enough i still use Paint, it's quicker to boot than Photoshop and still comes in handy, gotta admit i'd be disappointed to see it go.
Actually I use Paint.NET, easy and simple with many tools.
But sometimes I switch to PSD.
I personally grew up using Photoshop, so I can't really say I'm disappointed or anything.
Is a shame! I still remember when they discontinued horse carriage in favor of motorised vehicle. I only can accept that time is changing and science advances like skewer on soft meat.
I have to agree that this is a sad move on Microsoft's part, as part of Paint's infamy was its widespread distribution. Many kids grew up with Paint (Myself included.) In fact, I still use Paint occasionally for pixel art.

I will miss the original Paint, and despite the criticism, I know I'm not the only one.

Personally, I learned to move on and use dedicated programs, but Paint will have a place in my childhood, and my heart.
Hey at least it's going to the windows store. Paint 3D has the old paint stuff anyway..making it redundant.
