Hey nerds, after being unsatisfied with the status of ripped models from monster hunter on this site, and wanting some actual references for my drawings, I decided to take ripping stuff into my own hands. unfortunately, 3ds ripping is largely a mess, and trying to find converters for capcom's file system was even more of a hassle. thankfully, i found scripts that work for the 3DS monster hunter games! So I can rip the monsters, and probably hunters and weapon/armor as well. We shall see.
I started with stories, because I liked the style. Thankfully, these scripts work with any capcom games and I can do MH3U and MH4U, as well as MHGen too. No MHXX, because I don't have the game.
For Stories, all model variations are stored in the same file. This includes child and rage mode models, and monstie models (where applicable, like deviljho). Unfortunately, these are not named and sometimes the differences are so subtle that it's hard to tell what part of the model belongs to which! Also, some models, like Lagiacrus, are fragmented in very strange ways and are very confusing to tell what part belongs to what part of the model state.
You see, with some monsters, like the monoblos, the "wild" type monoblos uses a different model from the monstie model, which just uses a different head. Some of the differences are subtle, and even though ive completed the game, its still hard to tell the difference and determine which is which. For these, I've labeled the parts as "alt" or something when i named the objects in the file. Some might be a bit mismatched. Again, its very hard to tell which part goes to which version of the model.
If you've played stories, you probably know that if you put enough elemental genes on a monstie, it'll change element and also change color a bit. All the base models color the color changing parts white, and use a strange overlay that I'm not sure how to apply on the model to change the colors, so you'll have to deal with Lagiacrus with white horns instead of orange or red or whatever color it is my lagiacrus is a fire type i dont know. If i find a way to apply these textures to the model, I will.

This is a google drive of the models I've ripped. No rigs, sadly, but I hope that's alright for this site. At the moment, there are 2 files in each folder for the model: one is the original export from the game without any of my changes. These models are not centered and are kind of scaled oddly because I fucked up the scale in 3ds max and i don't really care enough to fix it. Then there is the .fbx that is fixed, has named parts, textures/materials, and fixed normals etc. There are also alphas of the transparent textures in the folder, because I work in 3ds max and it apparently doesnt accept the alpha channel of the texture so I have to separate it manually.

Unfortunately for all you hunters of unused content, there is none in these models that I could find, just the as-of-yet unreleased DLC for the international versions.
I have only ripped a few models from the game right now, but if you guys have any requests for monsters to be ripped next, let me know!
Edit: in the lagiacrus folder there is a texture that i assume is used for the element overlays in the game. if anyone can figure out how to apply it to the model and make it look good, let me know. ive messed with multiply in 3ds max and all i end up with is a black and red lagiacrus.
