The only impact I recall Kingdom Hearts having in the gaming community was helping to expand the JRPG scene in the western hemisphere for those who had a prominent love for Disney. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.
Either way, there's is more going for a character like Neku from The World Ends With You and he's unlikely to get in. Sora even more so because the identity he has centers around Disney and that's where it becomes an issue of whether or not Smash should have non-game originating characters ending up in the roster. Plus I feel like it would be also up to Disney to make an agreement to allow their IPs to even be represented in a game about fighting which, to tell you the truth I doubt that they would want that because they've pretty much had an issue with Square making a Kingdom Hearts based fighting game if I'm not mistaken. Even if they did they'd probably try to buy out Nintendo in the process.
To me I just think its funny that people are forgetting that if it wasn't for Disney, Sora as a character just wouldn't exist. And we all know how Sakurai's stance for smash right now.
Thanks for cleaning that up for me!

You're right. Dissidia Final Fantasy started as a Kingdom Hearts game and Disney vetoed it.
Piranha Plant's my new main.
Today i died a little inside
I think the troll in me has been pleased upon hearing the news.
I'm a little disappointed that Geno is DLC at this point, because I was hoping he'd be just included in the roster. But in light of all the tears Sora fans are shedding we end up getting Pirhana plants as a fighter.
I welcome this.
I like Pirahna Plant, because he came out of nowhere. No leaks, no predictions, no single thought, because who would ever want a basic enemy and yet another Mario rep (that isn't Waluigi). But his moveset looks interesting too. In a way, Pirahna Plant kind of fills Waluigi's role as a quirky, dirty character. As much as I wanted Waluigi, there's less of a reason for him to be playable now, at least in my opinion. The mass salt is entertaining too.
I'm a little bummed that Shadow didn't make it in and was confirmed an AT, and at the last moment too, what a tease (I feel the pain of the Golden Sun fans in that regard.) I now have hope for Tails as a DLC character, given there are 5 spots, no legacy character is left and it's confirmed that none of them are going to be echo fighters (though I suspect one of them could be released with its respective echo, like Simon and Richter.)
Honestly, I think I'm most disappointed at how little was done with the Echo concept despite going out of their way to highlight it early on. Particularly when they made it sound like Echoes would never be DLC. I would be so hype for packs of Echo characters.
Edit: Got rid of old post. I kind of ranted sorry. Now that I'm calmed down I actually kinda like pirhana plant he's kinda funny and seems neat.
I loved this direct so much. In a similar mindsight as Dio, it makes me smile that Sakurai handled things the way he did. Piranha Plant for absolutely no reason, throwing Shadow and Isaac in there but as assists, two (while interesting enough) kind of underwhelming new fighters. Spirit mode seems kinda eh and definitely not what a lot of people were speculating. It felt so "I don't give a fuck, yo" - SAKURAI 2018. It was so noT what I was expecting but I can't even be mad.
Didn't see Piranha Plant coming but he looks interesting to play. Spirit Mode seems forgettable and World of Light (Smash Bros. Infinity War), seems interesting as well. Kinda great to have Adventure Mode back.
So, to sum up this last Direct...
[POINTS OF INTEREST]
>One of the original Echo Fighters (Ken) and a pro-wrestler Pokemon (Incineroar) join the fray. And I get yet another reminder of just how far behind I am in terms of Pokemon-related stuff in the process.
>Some random-as-gunk Piranha Plant follows up, proving once again that Sakurai is indeed a master firebrand.
>Music tracks made easier to unlock? YES PLEASE
>While the collector in me mourns the loss of trophies, I've gotta admit this new Spirit system looks... intriguing, to say the least.
>Speaking of which, nominating Shantae as most adorable Spirit in the land.
>A glimpse at the new Adventure Mode, in which EVERYBODY'S FRIGGIN' DEAD
>EVEN THE CHILDREN
>AND THE GODS THEMSELVES
>...I mean... JEEZ, this is some heavy stuff we're lookin' at here.
>Local gluttonous pink puffball only survivor of the carnage, reportedly commented "Welp, breakfast's out. Got some jerk to smack away. Again."
>Appearently doesn't care about having its work cut out for it. Also again.
>Opening theme, WITH LYRICS!!
And I'm just stuck here, thinking "...December can't come fast enough.". So yeah, that sure was a trip.

I guess some fighters "survived" because they're completely absent both cutscene and gameplay. Such as Yoshi, Luigi and Jigglypuff by exemple.
I'm pretty sure Ness survived by using his PK Teleporte (like Kirby did).
But seriously, Palutena is a goddes and she failed
Pirahna Plant survived, because he's late to the party.
Speaking of, I wonder if the DLC characters will get their own Spirit Battle scenarios with new Spirits to collect. For example, Lava Pirahna from Paper Mario is represented by 2 small Pirahna Plants and a giant Pirahna Plant holding a Fire Flower in stage 3 of Castle Siege.
Holding a Fire Flower? I'd give them Super Spicy Curry. Neat idea, though.
