Been working on this since 2017. 3 & 1/2 years and only this much? Yeah, i know, pretty pathetic. But i did loose a couple sprites in a crash and i've
worked exhaustively hard deliberating on what i have managed to get done.
Tell me what you really think. At any rate, i don't believe i can finish this alone.
I don't understand what you mean by "salvaging".
From the look of things, it's trying to adapt the Sonic 3 sprites into the posture from Sonic 1/2? The Sonic 2 running sprites inflected onto Sonic 3 are pretty neat, but without context it's not quite simple to comment on the rest of it.
Also, the difference between the heads for the pushing sprites seems to only be a pixel?

You know how notoriously incomplete and lazy looking the originals are right? By salvaging i mean by trying to polish up the look they were going for and trying to fix the things that people complain about without completely replacing them with totally different looking sprites. Like something ModGen or Shinbs would do. The air bubble sprite is a good example of what i'm talking about. The original looked lousy and half finished. I think i fixed it pretty good but there's always room for improvement.
I am indeed trying to give them a closer lineage to Sonic 2 while still looking Sonic 3. This is a lot harder than i figured it would be. I put new heads on Sonic 3 beta walking sprites and am trying to give them the Sonic 3 look minus the "floppy clown shoe" look.
The 2nd frame of the walking sprites is the only one i can say is completely finished.
Yeah, i can't choose which head the pushing sprites work better with. The spines on the originals look like cones. I curved them back and gave them more "circular saw" symmetry.
I think i'll have to post my entire work sheet to give you better context. However, there are other people's sprites on there that i simply recolored in S3 pallete so i could better compare what changes they made from the originals in order to help me work out my own ideas. EG: The snowboarding sprites.
