I don't have much to show for except this Lugia, for now. I kinda slowed down for some reason. I guess I've felt kinda tired and burnt out lately. I'm gonna try to will up enough motivation to get Kingdra done tonight too

Figured I'd make a new post for the sprites I've made in the past few days. I just now finished Magby.

Not much, just my typical 1-sprite post that I'm going to post alone, then I'm going to edit it with a fuckton more sprites in the next day or so, then I'll post those sprites in a new post after I've made a couple new ones two days later LOL

These kind of remind me of those Neo Geo Pocket Color card portraits that depict Capcom and SNK characters.

I know these aren't original per se (I recognized the Sneasel immediately) but you did an excellent job translating the artwork, especially considering resolution + color count.

I don't necessarily have anything new to add as of now, since I've been focusing most of my energy on another project for a friend. But I'd like to say: thank you so much! I'm actually very glad that Sneasel was recognizable to you. One thing I loved about the sprites from the Pokemon TCG2 game for GBC was that they put an entirely new spin on cards that I've grown up with since I was very little, and I'm happy to be able to emulate that feeling. I'm very aware that a lot of folks on TVGR tend to prioritize original works, which is wonderful in its own way and I'm always happy to see that. But there's one thing I've always made that I feel no inkling of shame for, and that's derivative works based on someone else's style. Since it's something I always enjoy seeing other artists do, I suppose it makes sense that would also be something I enjoy doing myself.

Thank you so much! I'm very sorry to report that I don't have anything new to add as of now, but i have a feeling this is one of those projects I will come back to in the next year or so, so this won't be the last you all hear from me.

I'm working on a Gen 2 remake called Johto Reborn which has the TCG as a Gwent-like sidequest, so I've been busy making card sprites for all the gen 2 mons that didn't have them (and a load more besides). Figured I'd share them with this project instead of hogging them to myself:

Very happy with how the "realistic" shading ones like Ursaring and Blissey came out. Any tweaks welcome as I hadn't done pixel art at all before this.

I'm also making original Johto Gym Leader cards in the style of the Gym Heroes cards (as they never got official ones), to win as a prize after beating each gym. Will post them next.

Giovanni definitely needs a little something something, but I'm very happy with all the others, especially Bugsy and Sabrina.

The Johto leaders never got their own VS cards (the TCG switched to "TM" type cards that just weren't anywhere near as nice) so I need to try and come up with card effects for them in my game.
