Gear Alpha Masks are textures used to turn parts of Splatoon player models transparent to prevent the body clipping through the clothing.
How to Use Gear Alpha Masks [Splatoon 3]
Placing Clothing correctly
First, place the clothing items in the correct positions. You can read the about the process of correctly placing clothing on a Splatoon player model here: https://www.vg-resource.com/thread-40995.html, While written for S2 models, it works the same way for S3 models.
Choosing the Correct Gear Alpha Mask
Next, choose the appropriate Gear Alpha Masks for the items of clothing. You can check these against the clothing to see if they match. White = opaque, black = transparent. There should not be any black showing through the clothes. The areas under the clothes should be black.
For example, the Gear Alpha Mask for the tri-shred tee is "clt_19_opa.png."
How to Apply Gear Alpha Masks
In Eevee and Cycles, if you are using a Principled BDSF node, you should connect the gear alpha mask into the "Alpha" input of the Principled BSDF.
In Eevee and Cycles, if you're not using a principled BDSF, you should use a transparent BSDF node.
Note: Eevee materials should have their Blend mode set to Alpha Clip.
Combining Gear Alpha Masks
To combine Gear Alpha Masks, use MixRGB nodes set to "Multiply."
I hope that helps you!
