I signed up here several years ago, and promptly forgot all about it...so this is my official first post. OK, where to start?

Well, I guess the best place to begin was when I was about 6 years old, in the mid-1980s; that's when an elder of mine introduced me to computer games. It was nothing fancy back then, just basic stuff like early Wheel of Fortune ports or standards like Hearts and Solitaire. But those early experiences were definitely the first spark of interest for me, and not long after I was introduced to the NES. That transformed what had been a casual hobby into a fierce childhood addiction.

I don't remember who first showed the system to me, but my Mom gave me a used one for one of my birthdays. I immediately latched onto the original Super Mario Bros., and then began playing so many games that are now considered classics - The Legend of Zelda, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!, Tetris, Double Dragon, TMNT, DuckTales, Chip 'n' Dale, and the supremely frustrating first Metroid game. I swear, half the rooms in that damn thing all looked the same, and with no save points or maps you were pretty much screwed. I don't know how many years it took, for me to finally reach Mother Brain and blast her sorry self to Kingdom Come.

As for related items, I may have eaten Nintendo cereal at some point, but I don't recall liking it. I did have one of those black carry cases with the gold company logo on the side, and it could hold maybe 15 games or so. I adored the Captain N cartoon, even though it was cheesy beyond belief. And to this day, I don't care one bit what anyone else says or thinks - The Wizard is far more than just an extended video game commercial. As a young boy with virtually no friends myself who came from an emotionally abusive home, I really felt for Jimmy Woods. I wanted an older brother like Corey to take me on a road trip and get me away from all the constant nightmares; having a smart and caring girl along for the ride wouldn't have hurt either. Christian Slater and Beau Bridges are both great actors, and the movie even has a silent cameo from the future Spider-Man himself, Tobey Maguire! I didn't get a Super Nintendo until I was 17, so the original NES continued to be my main system of choice, well beyond its original life span. Nowadays, I actually have one in my possession that I personally fixed, but its not connected because I don't have an upscaler for my HDTV.

Anyway, I guess that's enough of a long-winded intro for now. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Smile
