Full Version: How many times have you upgraded your computer.

(This may not get a lot of answers but hey, it's still an effort to revive the forums a little bit.)

One thing I've been wondering is how often you've upgraded your computer if you've done so at all. This is because I've upgraded my computer yesterday and since this is a community of nerds, I'm wondering how many others have done this as well.

Basically, my machine "only" had 8 Gigs of RAM and I've noticed for quite a while that I slowly had to install more RAM.
This was best seen with Cities: Skylines where it tended to lag from time to time but moreover, it took very long to boot/quite to the point where I almost never played it with my browser open. So I did last week:I went searching for a store which sold RAM (at first I was looking through the big chain but one hadn't them on the shelves and the other only a limited selection and me being an introvert, I didn't consider asking some staff whether they have RAM in stock BTS) and later went to a smaller store where I've collected enough courage (I'm this bad, lul) to ask for RAM. They hadn't had any in stock (or rather, only one stick but I needed two) but had ordered some for me.
I installed it, albeit with some trouble where I couldn't close the clips, and... my computer couldn't boot, lol. I couldn't even boot it with the original so I took my computer to the store I where I bought my RAM (which was quite some effort because I have no car so I carried it by myself through trains and buses) and a worker investigated it. Turned out, I didn't properly inserted the modules which also explained why I had so much trouble to close the clips when I first inserted them (I actually pulled out the original RAM to make photos thereof and insert it back before I went to buy some RAM and when I did that, I apparently inserted it properly, albeit still with some trouble to secure the clip).
My computer runs much smoother for certain and CS also runs much smoother now (more specifically, it boots/closes much faster than before).

I have some further plans to upgrade it, mostly to increase my storage (since I'm running out of space on my SSD and my HDD is rather old) but I'll wait until the deprecation of Win10 where I'll switch to OpenSUSE (laziness prevails) where I'll have to deal with migration and probably have some more cash to buy some proper storage anyway.
Last time I updated any of my computers was when I updated my iMac to 32 gigs of ram from the 16 gigs. However I upgraded to a grand spankin new gaming PC so I ended up selling the Imac.
I upgraded from 16GB to 32GB RAM. For my sisters, I bought 1TB SSDs (MX500) for extra storage.

Still thinking about giving my current PC (Ryzen 2600) to my sister, since she has an Core i5-6600 and can't update to Win11.

That may be a blessing in some ways because windows 11 isn't all that cracked up as it is said to be.

I'm considering downgrading to 10.
