Thought about changing the colors for better ones? Also, shading wouldn't be bad, would it?
Anyways, their halos could be rounder, they're way too straight-
Those 'dying'-poses look baaad. Clodse their eyes or something and do something about their legs - why would they be holding one leg up when they're dead?
The front leg bugs me. Should be moved some pixels towards their center.

Can't MAME just do an effect which makes the graphics look like this anyway?

You're not shading it right... what you do is something like drawing gradients... What you should do is giving the thing a rather 3-dimensional shape... Make balls, zylinders, flat surfaces visible.

Their belly, for example, should be round but looks totally flat in your sprites.

If you don't mind...

That's what I would've done, somehow. Whatever.
