About the last idle animation, the cap needs some animation. The cap isn't a helmet after all (though fixing it can wait for later).
Where's his bodily movement?
Well its a WIP. I was just trying the arm and leg movements. I'm going to make him bob up and down a bit, but I checked in Brawl and he doesn't move side to side at all during his run.
Quick edit. Please note that the shapes of the arms and legs aren't final. When I shade, I'm going to redraw most of the solid colored parts. And I'll make his hat move a little and stuff like that. Right now I'm just trying to make the movement fluid.
Okay, the bodily movement makes it look 400x better. Please continue!

I'd like to see the cap bo up and down slightly when Mario does. that would look awesome
Working on the hat bob now. Not sure if the hat should go up when Mario goes up, or down when Mario goes up
Some head movement and we'd be good.
Well, naturally, on the downstep, I'd imagine the hat would go up a little, then down on the impact and the upstep.

Hat? or Head? Because I was originally going to have his head turn left to right a little, but I checked both Brawl and Melee and his head stays still. But the hat movement I have right here. Not too happy with this, because part of his hat stays in the same spot the whole time. But I tried like 3 different times and this was the best one.
Yeah, the hat just looks awkward as is. One of the things I've noticed is that Mario tends to lean a little further forward, but that's just me being nitpicky.

The hat is staying in one place while the body moves.
