what would be awesome would be able to use different characters like in sm64 ds but have lots of new flower abilities

err... they made that. Super Mario 64 DS was exactly that.

Personally I want a NSMB sequel in the same line as SMB2 US. I think that mechanic of picking plants and whatnot is something that could be a little refreshing, especially if the game was longer then NSMB, since that game, albeit very fun, wasn't long at all and I beat it the first night I got it.

I didn't think Galaxy was as awfull as you guys make it out to be. Sure it was linear and the hub world stunk, but it pushed the Wii graphically and was a fun game to play the first time through as each character. One thing though is that to this day I would still just mess around in Super Mario 64's levels, and stuff like that doesn't happen in Super Mario Galaxy. I think Galaxy is more like the older Mario Games, in that it isn't so much a exploration treasure hunt, but rather a point A to point B game like NSMB.

SMB2 US isn't even a real Mario game. Lost Levels is a true Mario game (not to mention the real sequel).

I'm pretty sure it's real. Sure, it wasn't originally a made to be a Mario game and has different gameplay but it's still a Mario game.
That's what I meant. Nintendo just took another game and replaced the graphics (as well as adding a miniscule feature or two). In essence, they didn't make a Mario game, they borrowed a game and made it Mario.

A true [insert_franchise] game is made to be that game from the start, not to mention being made or endorsed by that franchise.

It doesn't really matter, though.
it was a Mario game based on a not Mario game that was suppose to be a Mario game. Plus it's still a Mario game. Heck, Luigi's and Peach's entire character pretty much came from that game with Luigi jumping higher and Peach floating, which was used in newer games that were pure Mario games. Plus look at all the enemies from Doki Doki that are now staples of the Mario series. Doki Doki Panic was created by Miyamoto iirc, and published by Nintendo.

So Banjo Kazooie isn't a real game because it wasn't Banjo-Kazooie since the start? Or maybe Star Fox Adventures isn't a real game because it wasn't a Star Fox game from the start. Or Conker... or any game that is different from what it started as.

Basically. They were real games, but they weren't meant to be the game that they are from the start. It makes the end product not quite the saem as it otherwise would have been, because from the start less effort/time/resources were put into it becoming the game it eventually did become.
