thaks a lot, zeemort c:
I was doing this for test purposes. I was seeing how well I could use Photoshop for painting stuff (I'm shit at expert image-editting programs so I was practicing a little, heh)
I looked for that kind of plaid texturing in google and this was one of the first ones that 'worked', so I sticked with that one. I do agree that it clashes with the whole style of the drawing.
again, thanks!
EDIT: also, I'd like to make a vector drawing sometime. I've been emulating the curves/line width with ball pens, but it still isn't as smooth as I'd like. Any tips in Photoshop?
As for now, I can somewhat control the bezier curves (C2B gave me some tips on it), but all I get is a solid shape. How can I make it so it isn't a filled shape, but a empty shape with variable outlining?
I haven't used the pen tool (or photoshop, actually!) in a while, but the way I normally do it is make a solid shape for the silhouette, and then using this setting on the pen tool
(does that even have a name?)
I start adding subpaths to cut away parts of the silhouette to make the line art.
It can be a bit fiddly and sort of time consuming, honestly! I'm told it's easier in Illustrator or Flash, but I've only used Flash very very briefly, so I don't really know!
Paint tool Sai has a vector-ish inking tool that lets you mess around with line weights once you've already put the lines down-- I think that's what Devicho uses, actually!
Just a little doodlie of mine I just did. I wanted to make a comic, but I have no idea how to make it funny, so I just stopped at the first panel

Will eventually be finished Puyo Fever style.
That lineart brings a happy tear to my eye, it's so clean and smooth!

I'm gonna have to check Sai out, hey Devicho, do you use a tablet?
Yeah, I do actually. I'd recommend it 100% for using SAI since a lot of things like brushes don't work quite like they're supposed to with a mouse.
Flippin' huge file, sorry.

Your lines have always astonished me...and how you can use illustrator that well is beyond me. I absolutely suck at it lol
EDIT: Just realized you've been using SAI like me ffff..well then in that case, I need to learn how to vector in SAI!
I have felt like I have been holding myself back when it comes to certain things..so I decided to try to push myself further, to a boundary I never really been to before. This is my attempt at "Hyper Realism".
Also, for those who are wondering how the Christmas Card came out.

so that's why my sister really was dying to buy a tablet lately
I'm too lazy to make my own topic just for this...
EDIT: oh I have to do it all over again anyways, since I have 200-300 too many tris.

Oh, actually that specific picture was done in Illustrator. I use SAI most often, but for Fever-style pictures Illustrator is much better because the lines can be made so much sharper, and a lot of things in Fever-style come to rather sharp points.
