I can't say about Nar being a Deity (as I don't know which class that it's the localized version of) but he did have an arcana (he was a Persona in the original, don't know if you could actually make him, but he was Kandori's) so that would be close enough.
Persona 2 actually gives us a little bit on Nyar's background. At first he acts like a Persona to control one character, and right at the final boss we get a full explanation.
First he controls the main villain, the "Joker" character. And when the main party beats him, he leave the character without a Persona and assumes a human form.
In the ending, Philemon appears and it's explained that Nyar is a deity opposed to Phil himself. While Phil is passive and only watches over, save for granting Persona to some people and having his servants helping the playable characters (Igor and the others), Nyar is fully-active and wants to bring humanity to the brick of chaos and despair, to see how much we can take before destroying ourselves.
The ending of Innocent Sin also explains why Philemon don't appears in a physical form or grant the ability to change Personae/see the Velvet Room to every character in P3 and P4 ;p
Quick question: Are these 4bpp or 8bpp?
On PSX-VRAM? 4bpp, and the portraits are 8bpp I believe.
Yay, ,more

I think the Principal's persona might be called Hanya, but I'm not sure.
I have a scan with the bosses from the game and it was Hannya something (I'm not good with Kanji).
If you send me a link or the image I can check out the dictionary or talk to a friend who's learning Japanese
On that, which is more accurate: Hanya or Hannya?
Impressive rips, Ultimecia. So yeah, THIS is what you have been doing since you dissapeared from my radar.
Um, she's been doing this here for a while, it's not exactly an ancient secret.
You'd be aware if you were involved here a bit more. Great work as usual, Ulti!

Hanya is his real name, Hannya is his nickname. It's like how Masao is more accurate than Mark or Eriko to Elly.
And the scan labeled him as Principal Hannya (well, the Japanese equivalent), luckily I still had screenshots from the first game of Hannya and Ooishi to compare to.
So maybe I should change the Persona's icon to "Principal Hannya", I guess XD I'm going to do it later, I'm not on my computer right now
