Shouldn't somebody finalize the engine before we start worrying about graphics and music? Those can be redone later. If there are 15 characters programmed, and the engine's redone, well, that's a waste of time.

Heres my attempt at the engine so far, I'm using Gooey from the Fantasy Smash Bros Project:

It's pretty smooth. I don't care for the select screen much, but the engine seems to be pretty good so far. I wish there were some more finished characters you could implement.
EDIT: Omega, I love Gooey's fluidity.
EDIT 2: I just noticed that if you get the opponent to a high %, an up smash makes it go nuts for a sec. I think they get KO'ed a couple times.

Isn't Paper Mario finished?
Anyway, that engine feels good so far, but the buttons aren't exactly the best setup...

I agree. And I think Kirby, Jigglypuff, Game and Watch, and probably Snake could be used with the engine right now. Along with Paper Mario.

Thats only because I haven't animated the frame for respawning yet, so if you fall off the screen, it changes your position only and you keep flying. I left it in (for now) because it looked funny.
I would add Kirby, Jigglypuff, and Snake. But I heard they were out of style had to be redone first.

Everything's great except for the button set up, like Ton said. Gooey looks great in animation, though =)

For a control set up fix, I say go for a ZXC key set up
Also for the love of god made the up arrow the jump please.
Other than that I love the engine. gooey is my main before the game is even out.

Ah, ok. As long as you know. I think Snake and Kirby are the only ones being redone.

I think it should be like this:
You start out with Fantasy Smash characters, like Paper Mario and Gooey, and you unlock all of the original characters along with other Fantasy Smash characters.

We're not even that far yet. We still need to sprite while he tinkers with the engine.
Runouw, is it possible to give characters different weight? Also, one thing that annoys me when I'm playing Flash Smash games is the erratic scroling of the screen while you move around. Is there a way to fix that or tighten it up?

I think he means make it smoother
