A departure from the combat in FFXI? Heck yes.

@Jake: Yes, I hated starting payments at the end of a month.. 15$ for 3 days. Gay. Also private servers is a MAYBE, they are dropping PlayOnline but iirc they said they were moving on to a more similar program, because the felt PlayOnline was outdated. I really hope private servers don't arise because it would screw the official servers over.. the only reason why WoW survives with private servers is because everyone and their moms play WoW anyways.

@Camo: What was wrong with FFXI combat?? Still a good thing though

On a sidenote, as they're dropping the PlayOnline system, private servers may actually be possible?

PC version? probably. PS3? I'm pretty sure Sony wouldn't let that shit fly. They like to keep a tight leash on what you can do/share on their console.

Yeah, lets spout bullshit to make our points. Private servers don't threaten the real things because of a few reasons. They're behind the times (I don't think very many of them even HAVE WotLK content enabled, but I haven't checked in awhile) so to get the newest stuff you play official servers. Second, whenever a private server gets too much attention Blizzard comes along, slaps a cease and desist, and the private server ultimately buckles. Because of these two reasons, it's rather hard to find a quality private server.

I dunno, I guess playing an MMO with the 360 gamepad didn't really click with me and I didn't like the idea of having to sift through menus during the combat instead of just having the spell on a hotkey. If I pick up FFXIV it'll probably be on the PC instead.

fake edit: i guess my issue was with how the game controlled on a gamepad, i'm just a huge retard is all

Good thing I'd never be touching the PS3 version.

The POL client was the entire reason you couldn't get private servers with FFXI because it was difficult to emulate or something, and even when they did get private servers you'd still have to pay for a main account to use them.
if the pc version has private servers then yes I will download it
come to think of it, they might switch FFXI to the new client. Hopefully.

They do have WotLK enabled, since day 1 iirc. Problem is, no one gives a shit because they are usually instant-80 servers and content no longer serves a purpose.

I also find servers with THOUSANDS of players. That may not be much to WoW but to FFXI, at least, that would be a punch to the nuts.
someone tell them to make a new chrono game. i don't need anymore final fantasy games i don't care about.

It's all well any good. I just play WoW and I'm a cheapskate, and for a while I played on private servers, but I ended up playing the real game. It's nice because it's a fair challenge, like 9 of my irl friends play it, and I'm finally catching up to 80. Well, enjoy your FXIV, I may take a peek when it comes out to see the reviews and stuff, but probably won't join.
