People are giving you too much credit in trying to get you to look back and figure out why your suggestions are ill-concieved, but I know better and I'm feeling particularly mean, so you get the bold text.
What you suggested are not COSTUMES, but CHARACTERS, and in some cases your choices MAKE NO SENSE.
I'll relay what I think of some of my favorites.
Bowser =/= a Mini Kraid
Toon Link =/= Vaati (hellllllllllllll nooooooooooo)
Lucario =/= Frosslass? ... Raise your hand if you don't know what a Frosslass even is.
MetaKnight =/= DarkMatterKnight
Ike =/= Isaac
KOS-MOS =/////= Klonoa? (HOW?)
Sir, what you are suggesting are character clones rather than costumes. You'd have to change their graphics entirely, give them new voices, and it'd make no sense for the announcer to go "GENO WINS!" when you were somehow, don't ask me how, playing as Dimentio.
... Now, to those of you who don't have your heads in the clouds, what I'd stand by is this:
-Don't make costumes mandatory for characters, but don't completely rule them out (or in) until after you complete a sheet for a character.
-Perhaps limit it to one costume for a character, for those that get one that is. Lots would be great, but would it be reasonable?
-Only use a costume if it is considered iconic enough. Doesn't have to be OLD or CLASSIC, but something that leaves a big impression. An example of a costume that is rather classic is Dr Mario for Mario, while one that is impressionable while being rather recent would be Dry Bowser. (Seriously, I flipped out when I first saw him )
-Last minute example of a character who almost cannot have an official costume change: Geno. He's only had one official game appearance to my knowledge, and he pretty much kept that appearance the whole game.

Just next time read the rules before you post.

Costumes should be something special, not something that everyone gets.
Heck, I'd rather see Wario being the only one who gets his extra costume by default and any others would have to be unlocked, but that could complicate the online-play feature that we want so badly.

Updated the first post.

How about instead of the fusion suit, Samus could wear her original suit?
Also how about Bowser Jr's be his Strikers Charged suit with the bandanna over his mouth

This.
Also, Retro Waluigi what? Are we going to give him a biker outfit?!
I think that the alt costumes should only be these:
Already unlocked since first play/character unlock:
Biker Wario - Classic Wario
Command Krystal - Tribal Krystal
Male Villager - Female Villager
Needs to be unlocked:
Mario - Dr.Mario
Samus - Fusion Samus
Zero Suit - Justin Bailey Suit (comes with the Fusion suit)
Toon Link - Pajamas Link
Lil' Mac - Hoodie Little Mac
Megaman - Protoman Costume
Klonoa - Classic Klonoa
Costumes that maybe could be in:
Link - Orion Link
Bowser - Dry Bowser
Ridley - Meta-Ridley
And about Meta-Knight, having his mask on/off could be toggled with a taunt, as I said, there's no need to do an alt costume for that.

How about for Bowser Jr., his alt. costume can be his bandana from Sunshine? Remember, it was different in sports games. See?

That's what I was getting at. Maybe the default could be the "scary face" around his neck and the alt could be the "mario face" on his shout?
12-03-2009, 01:24 PM
But that's just a bandana. This doesn't change the character's design at all and it isn't even that important. It'd be better if Bowser Jr. had an alt color that has this bandana instead.

I really don't think Metaknight should fight without his mask. He's ashamed of his face and only ever loses his mask when he loses a fight. Being maskless would be a good idea for when he loses, but not as an alt costume, imo.

but Meta-Knight is so cute that way ;o;
instead of getting angry at him because he's such a cheap character you'll just want to use grab attacks so that you can hug him ;o;
okay seriously,
His mask can be cut off like after you defeat him in Kirby games. It'd be a taunt, he would do a getting hit position and his mask would be sliced in two. You can use the taunt again and Meta-Knight will vanish and recover his mask.

Updated the third party characters a bit.

Out of the two possibilities in the first post, I'm going with pink hoodie for Little Mac.
I'm part of the group that believes the nameless character in Super Punch-Out!! is not Little Mac.

Little Mac wears a protective headgear in Punch-Out Wii. I think that should be his alt.
I think Rookie Bowser is a good alt. Not too complicated.
