I believe we were going with [below] for his alt.

At least that's what I started when I did him in the old style.
Edit: Except that's not a good example of the hat. The hat looks more like these ones

Edit again:
Here's the wip I had in the old style (never got around to retro-ing the hat)

I thought that it was his chef outfit we were using

EDIT: Im assuming that Mario Bros. costume was there to show people what you think it should look like?
I think for Pokemon Trainer we could either do his design from Red and Blue or the female character from Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

EDIT: And if we do the female idea we could make the pokemon female, if we use the Red and Blue design we could make the pokemon slightty closer to there old designs (ie Squirtles head could be rounder.)
Since when is the removal of ones man parts a costume change? Seriously though, when it comes to alt costumes, I think making him into a girl would be going a bit too far, mainly because we'd be making him someone else, and not him with an alt costume.

Didn't Red undergo a bit of a design change between R/B and FR/LG? If so why not use that?

Your right, but in the games, you have a choice between the boy and girl. Wouldn't it make sense to do the same thing here. Plus, Pokemon Trainer doesn't have a male name so it wouldn't make a difference. But I am fine if it isn't used, I just wanted to contribute.
I think the female trainer could work, but it would be the only exception. The Pokemon Trainer character in Brawl is supposed to represent to main player character in the games. But in the games, you can play as either a male or female trainer. They are essentially the main character with just different genders. They serve the exact same purpose and are identical in personality and purpose in the game.

The fact remains that Red is still his own character, even if you have the option of him or Green. Not only that, but Red serves a larger role, especially if you've beaten S/G/C/SS/HG. I'll tell you this, you won't see the female hero on that mountain top.

G&Ws cap actually looks like the mario bros arcade hats, the first art I showed just didn't show it.

I admit that is true, but the fact still remains that the "Pokemon Trainer" could be Ethan, Red, Krys, Lira, Leaf, or any other playable character. Heck, It could be Todd Snap! However let the public decide. Lets start a poll to decide it!
Let's not, because costumes are literally the lowest on the priority list.

OK, never mind
Also, you would need a new voice actor for the female character
Locking this for now. We'll resume when we've got something to show for the primaries.
