Im resurrecting my old Mario stuff, but this time making everything custom.. Do note that this is the first time I've tried something of this scale.
Im starting with a mountain tileset:
Clouds will come.
ANY kind of C+C or suggestion is welcome, as im new to BGs and such.. I've always been used to doing sprites and small things, but not pixel art like this.
Mockup.
(Similar to WW, yeah..)
I'll get to post Mario and all the crapload of blocks and enemies later on, but im focusing on this for the moment.
reminds me of that one mountain level in Kirby 64, but with less colors
Very nice, Smash! I always look forward to seeing your stuff =)
I do think you could do Mario better now, as I've seen your sprites in Tyvon's Pokemon topic- they blow that Mario out of the water. Not that it isn't good, just, I feel you could really improve upon it.
Keep it up.
Hm.. Yep. That Mario sprite is over than a year old. I should remake it while keeping the style in, in order to use the tiles I have now.
I tried to make something similar these days
Maybe this could be better, but then I'd have to ditch everything above and start all over.
I love this. I wish I had the patience to do environments; maybe I'll force myself to do 'em one day.
Im starting simple on mine for now, until I get the hang of things.
I made a new Mario too:
It's like that concept I posted above, but on this style.
I would add some black to the bottom of his shoes and between his legs to balance out the depth/shadow of the hat, mustache and hands.
And clouds wip:
I have no set pattern yet, first time doing these.
his hat curves up too much. it looks odd.
Im not really digging the mario, i dunno he just doesn't look "MARIO" enough.
honestly I think the tileset looks to good to have mario as the playable character on it.
I agree with Kaikimi, your stuff seems to have a more 'original' tone to it than a 'Mario' one.
It is. I just have Mario there as a placeholder until I get a good idea on my own.
He might be drawing too much attention from the tiles, it seems.
I need help with the clouds mostly, before I continue.
Doublepost, but with a significant clouds update:
