A defined palette does not mean one kind of green.
i just wanted to be sure Smile
RIght now, we could say there is a defined pallet for each character, because they dont match colors with the rest as it is.
I noticed that AG's Din and my edits of his Nayru were kind of in a different style than the official. So when I looked through this topic I made a lineup of sprites comparing each other, using Tyvon's Style 4 snake, Ninspriterx's new mario and Ton's new porky, along with nayru and din. This is the result, and I think they match up well, porky's outlines just need to be a touch lighter to fit in perfectly...

I do realize that Din and Nayru aren't exactly super-detailed characters, but then again, neither is porky.

By the way, I did notice this style is rather difficult. When I sprited Nayru then tried making Link...well...I didn't like the result, and it was rather tedious to sprite him.
Again, the style is difficult because of the size constraints. But the new one that I came up with is MUCH easier to work with than the old one.
People are still working on this project?
I thought it was pretty much dead...
Nice to see some people still care about it.
I personally think a size like NamcoXCapcom would be easier to work with.
Agreed. Maybe a bit smaller and thinner, less emphasis on deformation... all that. Plus, NxC style is built by parts, so animations take much less time to do.
I think it's too big. Like I said, it needs to be accessable and useable by all kinds.

Hm...yeah Mario is a bit small on that lineup, but Din, Nayru, Snake, and Porky seem to be perfect size imo, they're bigger than the original style. I can tell. I'm thinkin style 4 is the best to go with.

Also I always ALWAYS make my sprites in parts for styles like this, so aren't I already kind of in the loop...?

And I agree with Teeks. The NamcoXCapcon style is much to large for these sprites. I think the size we have now is good, we just shouldn't put in so much darn detail, y'know? I know we're going for a bit of the Smash Bros look, but we shouldn't strain ourselves too hard.

And even so, if we used a size/style similar to NXC, ALL the sprites would have to be redone, which would put us way far back in the project, where as if we went with Style 4, we would only have to make small edits to make the characters bigger.

There's ONE character done.
And it's Jigglypuff.
I think we'll be able to survive redoing characters.

As for NxC being too big, you have to consider that the sprites would only be used as reference, and would have to be resized for a less deformed build anyway, which would easily cut out some sprite width. As for height, we could always shrink that down as well.
That is true, but I'm telling you Teeks is right, the sprites are going to be used outside of this project, and that it would make it pretty difficult to use them in fangames or comics or flash videos if they're too big.
Is anybody listening to me at all when I say that we'd shrink them down? I'm just wondering, because I've said that about using NxC as a reference twice.
Well I'd like to see an example of how big we're talking. That would help a lot Cute
I second that. I'd like to see an example or two.
