Tyvon earlier said that changing the characters by 2-3 pixels would be helpful, but i thought that that was too little so i increased the height by 4 and increased the width by the same percentage
the top row is the size of our current mario with the rest in ratio size
the bottom row is the resized mario with the rest increased with a new ratio size
(keep in mind that it is a size increase, so it is not to be used as a reference to making, just to compare the sizes)
Too tiny for me too tell.....
sry about that, clicked something on imageshack that i shouldn't have
I still like the size. If someone can try a new style and win me over, go ahead and try, but I think we should stick with the same size, but a different style.
I am going to state my opinion on this, though, whether you choose to believe me or not, because I have little involvement in this as it is, is up to you. :p
Smash Bros emphasizes on graphics a lot, so a complicated style is most likely going to be wanted, but maybe we could take it in a more cartoony direction for once?
I know someone will want JUS, but too many people suggest this style and not many do it very well. Others might suggest Mario & Luigi, but it won't work for all characters and the style is more suited to an rpg format than a side-scrolling view (just look at the feet placement and you'll see what I mean). Still, others will even suggest Mega Man 7 eventually and I have seen that style so often it pretty much sickens me by now (stiff poses, awkward expressions, Popeye arms/legs, etc).
Smash Bros doesn't be all that serious. After all, it IS Nintendo (mostly) we're talking about here and it isn't that heavy on story in the first place.
I believe serious characters can be translated more easily to a more fun-loving look than a cartoonish character to a more grim tone, so a more lively look shouldn't be a bad direction to take for this. Let's try to come up with a style most people will be comfortable with making.
I think spriting for sprite comics is a bad idea. In the first place, most sprite comics would prefer larger sprites (I have literally NEVER seen sprites smaller than 32x32 or around that size used in their original resolution, they're always resized to a larger size.). That isn't to say I have even found a sprite comic worth wasting my time reading.
Second, I think spriting in larger sizes will make for less lazier animations. And more practice.
I think this is a good size for Kirby:
We don't even need complex shading. Like three shades for big parts will do.
Just my two cents.

Agreeing with this as well.
so yeah i think this is pretty stupid but it doesn't really affect me SO WHATEVER
Mm...kirby seems a bit too big, but I like SmithyGCN's opinion on a cartoonier style.
brb I'm gonna try makin a kirby to try this out.
Hm looks like I wound up using the same size Kilgore did...or somethhing close.
Yes I know I fail with Kirbies
I still like the original sizes.
The problem is that the style now is too difficult, no? We can support the same sizes but with a ¿cartoonier? style =S
That's exactly what I want. Same size, simpler style.

This. Although I haven't made anything for the project, so I guess my opinion isn't important. But then again, the reason I'm not participating is largely because of the style.
