I don't know why... but I imagine this:
A ghost slides up from the ground,... does something, and Luigi just appears (obviously via magic of some sort), looking all confused and shocked. He could even have only a towel wrapped around his waist, before he spins and voila! His clothes are on! It doesn't have to make sense, after all. XD
But randomness aside, I like the idea of him coming through the door.
I don't think the door would work, the only thing that they did for Luigi in SMB2 was make him weak & jump high, not much else, besides, you have to view it from a person who never played the game before, saying "why is Luigi coming out of a door, while Mario is coming out of the pipe, when the pipe is ionic to both?" . So pipe would be the better choice, but change it up in the process. And honestly, huge Mario fan, but SMB2 isn't a good game, it's just a Japanese exclusive, remade the playable characters into famous ones, and kept the same enimies the same.
I was just thinking of it as SMB1 - Mario, SMB2 - Luigi.
Uhh...Who cares if Luigi only jumped higher in SMB2? Atleast he was different compared to Mario in SMB1. And the Sub-con door is MUCH more Iconic than Luigi's mansion. If a person who plays the game doesn't even know what SMB2/Subcon door is, they shouldn't even be playing a Smash Bros. game, or the can look it up themselves.
DOUBLE POST:
Also, if we want to make this game for Video Newbies, they'll already be like WTF is a Skapon? Who's Marth? Whats a Pit?
I personally liked the "crawling out of the pipe," or the "jumping out of the pipe and tripping, falling on his head (or something)."
While the door (either one) may be more defining for Luigi, he's recognized more as the other brother in Super Mario Bros., rather than as "the guy with the ghost-infested mansion."
EDIT: Iceman ninja. Anyway, I really don't have any problem with the door. As far as the audience goes, I think we're kinda going for a similar target audience to Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was made up of a lot of gamers, but also some younger gamers and a small number of casuals. Though with a bit more emphasis on the gamers.
The doors in Luigi's Mansion have a generic look to them anyway. They just look like... doors.
But you know I was figuring we'd drop the door thing anyway, because it would be better suited if Villager (from Animal Crossing) had that as his intro. You know because that's how the character always starts his day in the game.
You could always have Luigi drop down a flag pole.
We could still go with the SMB3 whistle though. Its not as Iconic, but its original.
...Wait.
What's wrong with Luigi's intro, again? He's a Mario brother. Why would he need to come out of anything else? It should be obvious by now that Luigi has his own identity. Is a new intro really necessary?
It seems most people want to go with giving him a new intro.
But if that's the case perhaps Diddy Kong could get something different...
Seems awfully unnecessary. The two are brothers. Why do they need to have a different intro? They already have different movesets.
That'd be like giving Fox and Falco different intros. What's Falco going to do? He flies an Arwing. Why would Fox have to come out of a Landmaster? They're both primarily Arwing pilots.
It just seems like more time should be spent on the actual character tweaks, rather than small and unnecessary ones.
Ok, fair enough. Case closed.
Zero Suit Samus' down B should change, i think. Come on, she jumps forward. whats so great about that? Its just like giving her a third jump. If we keep the move, though, at least tweak it to be an attack.
The move is an attack. It's an incredibly powerful recovery move, attack dodge, and if you press B during it, it becomes a long-lasting, powerful kick with amazing meteor smash capabilities. It's honestly one of the best meteor smashes in the game because it also has great recovery effect-- it's not like some of the other meteor smashes because it doesn't throw her down.
In fact, a good ZSS player (cough me) knows how to use that move to its full potential. It's an excellent, quick move.
Not to mention its an excellent recovery move.

Iceman, did you read this or was it an intentional joke?
