It was a short story first, and it's not like the developers arn't well read.
but our probably right.
The japanese version probably had a japanese story about growing into a man. But it's the same thing
bcause r/b/y and g/s/c sure as heck did
g/s/c did especily the trainer sprites

and then the rest of the game was a 2 dementional catch'em and snatch'em fest
It's a gameplay first story second game, but it still has a message.

(i was talking about the animations which were sarcasticly implied as bad in r/s/e) : - )

They were just stretches/rotations.
so excuse me if a reference to a novel/movie at the beginning of something then tossed aside for the rest of that something doesn't imply a deep involved story to me
^^^what im trying to say^^^

okay so thats my point, where did r/b/y and g/s/c go that extra mile (except crystal. yes the pokemon had actual animatiosn but they were serosuly. seriously. dont even try to fucking joke with me here and dont argue, i will flip shit. they were seriously absolutely atrocious.)

In pokemon you are playing as the character. You are going through all of there trails and you are sharing there experiances as you explore the land of pokemon. Thats the part of the game that is supost to draw you in. The story is your adventure, and the adventure is about growing up.
then what differentiates that between r/s/e? they still had that same element.

NO THEY WEREN'T!!

It was so open ended, there is no real end. you just beat the elite 4 and start trading. I guess beating Norman comes close but that's not even in the cimax of the game. And there is no point of self realization for the hero, like there is after you beat red and relize that you're all grown up.
after you stop two titans from destroying your region you realize your all grown up. being accepted into the battle frontier is more fo a "your grown up" slap to a face anyway. its like
wow you accomplished a lot, here it is the end of the road. where all hoenn trainers strive to make it to. only the best of the best of the best of the best can come here. walking into the gates of the battle frontier is more of an accomplishment than defeating some hasbeen who want evolve his starter
