Why not? I remember in Melee at least there were more classic styled trophies along with their melee versions for the main characters.
How would the basic design for the cards look? Would they look like Yu-gi-oh cards, with a large picture in the middle, a banner over that with the name in, and a box in the bottom with a little bit of info? Or does anyone else have any other ideas?
I think they info on the card and the character picture should be side by side. one on the left and another on the right. The name at the top, and any other stuff on the bottom.
I think we should just use sprites from the game the character is in, unless;
1. It's a special card, like a character or assist trophy in the game.
2. The character has only appeared in 3D games.
3. You cant tell what they look like by looking at their sprites.
It would still look fine, and there would be heaps less work to do.
Koopaul posted this a while ago here, but I think we could either use it, or modify it a little. Different card rarities could be coloured differently.

Considering the games going to be played at 640x480, I think we need to up the size a bit before using it.
Well that's good, there shouldn't be space problems at that big a resolution.

The challenge is making the cards large enough that they look good at that resolution, but not so large that people won't be willing to sprite them.
How about each card could have stats, and there could be a little minigame based off the cards you accumulate?
Yep these are just our answer to trophies. Basically the same thing.
So here's an idea; What if we implement the following;
Where do you get cards? You buy them from Imakuni?
Coins- A casino, maybe Grate Guy's?
Costumes- Use coins to pay Mable and Abel, but you must find the Clothing patterns as well.
Secret Characters hints- The Hint Guy from Earthbound?
Hm... Maybe but in the spirit of Smash Bros. (where these characters aren't real and this is an existence beyond the characters reality) I was thinking we'd pick one from a shuffled deck of cards.
No characters involved.
Hang on, you know how in the subspace emisary you can gat trophies by firing the base at enemies? How about, to solve the card issue, we have Eggman Negas Card maker from Sonic Rivals 1 (He fired it at people and they turned to cards)
