I think if there's one good pixel art, it could be used several times. When you select a character, it will appear at the bottom in a box. A smaller/resized version which would be just a closeup of their head could be used for the little select box itself. It could also be used in the Classic mode "Versus" screen and in the trophy. It could be edited for the costume trophy, or maybe the costume trophy would get a new pixelart.

Koopaul, that's a pretty excellent list. There are a couple that could be left out I think and a couple that could be added, but it's a lot of work ahead of you and I hesitate to suggest anything.
One suggestion was to drop Culex and add Frogfucius. Great job so far.

I think 450-600 is a good number. Plus we shouldn't forget that there will be 3rd party characters as well. Metal Gear and Sonic the Hedgehog series deserves 30 trophies, other 3rd parties deserves 20 or 15 (like Megaman, Final Fantasy - deserves 20, Klonoa, Bomberman - deserves 15 or 10) and some others... I think none other than the characters themselves (like NMH and Mischief Makers).

I'm gonna act like this forum's biggest Sonic the Hedgehog nerd again and drop a list of trophies for the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

See what I did? I junctioned two or more characters in a same card more than just once. We should do that to reduce the incredibly large number of cards. Like for instance, instead of having Rick, Kine, and Kirby's other partner animals in separate cards, we should put them in just one card. Like one for Dreamland 2's animals and another one for Dreamland 3's new animals. And also taking out a lot of those characters. 30 characters for Punch-Out while F-Zero has 15?! 60 Donkey Kong characters?! 80 characters for Mario?! That's way too much.

80 for Mario might not be too over-the-top (In Brawl, there were about 3x as many Mario as there were Sonic), but I'll agree 60 DK and 30 Punch-Out are far too many, and the same could probably be said of many other series.

We could just have an assist trophy use starstorm in the game and have a description for it while having Lucas's/Ness's signature moves as their final smash.

A starman or poo/kumatora assist would work out.
