No, its barely an RTS.
It has strategy in it, but there is no way you are going to win battles with your army, you have to do the hack n slash part yourself.
Yes you can go down yourself but it still has RTS gameplay, specially later on in the game - there's no other way of saying it. It tries a lot of things, and yes it is rather good, but it doesn't excel at anything gameplay-wise. If it wasn't for the characters and atmosphere this game would be pretty bad, Tim Schafer is great with characters - something which hasn't changed since the LucasArts days.
I have been known to be a pretty harsh dude, but an opinion is an opinion - you can't just accuse people of not playing it when one happens to disagree with yours.
when i went to dethklok and mastodon in KC, they had a video for dethklok before their show of a video with the main character as their roadie, it was bad ass beyond belief.

So because I don't have to play as an RTS means that even though the RTS gameplay (which according to you may not exist) is in there and isn't great it can be completely ignored of judgement because I can simply not engage with it?
You don't have to drive a car in GTA for a lot of the missions, but like many I did and I didn't like the driving as much as I did in Saints Row 2. But I guess as I could simply walk for a lot of the missions I have no right to complain. Your logic is BRILLIANT!

But it still has RTS in it, I'm not saying its a friggin RTS. I'm saying the RTS gameplay isn't very good. And the normal combat isn't anything special either. Jesus, I'm not saying it's a terrible game - I'm saying it's a good game, but not excellent.

this game isnt the game of the year or really anywhere close but youre going at it the wrong way and not liking it because you didnt play it right.

i'm reading all these posts over and over and coming to the conclusion that goemar probably didn't play it wrong and legitimately thinks the game isn't that great. And I can see where he'd be coming from, from what I played in the demo the only thing this game really has going for it is Jack Black's great characteriziation with the main hero in the game, and the really strong, overdone "metal" theme. The gameplay really isn't anything we haven't seen before, and has been done better by other games.
the gameplay in the actual game changes after chapter 2.
