That would be interesting. How would the change work? Like, they touch a job crystal, then change?

Ah but he is not. He rightfully belongs to Square not Nintendo therefor of you intend on putting him in plus a FF rep you'd be putting double the Square characters.
As for that FF jingle it DOES happen after you beat the Culex.
Lets face it, that game had FF in the mix somewhat. And a ton of the game's characters ended up belonging to Square.
So even though he's a Mario character, LEGALLY he's third party.
I agree with koopaul, and I think a lot think so too.

And seriously, you can ALWAYS find a way to make something "overpowered" work. If fucking Optimus Prime worked against characters like Snake and Simon Belmont and shit, then why not Ryu Hayabusa?
Optimus Prime is a giant robot that was shrunk down to size to compete with the other characters.
Ryu Hayabusa is a ninja gifted with the extraordinary powers I already listed above. You can't resize him to make him fit with the characters because he's already at a decent height, so what are you going to do, take away his abilities that make him who he is?
Try and nerf this. I fucking dare you. It can't be done.
EDIT: And he isn't even using the sword in this video. His sword combos are even more intense.
Also, name one character in Smash that can walk on water. You can't, can you?
Ryu can.
A character that can hop in between walls multiple times? Climb on walls? Walk up and across walls? None.
Ryu can.
Remember we're talking about a game where Pichu can beat the snot out of Mewtwo.
Powers are relative.
Pichu CAN beat the snot out of Mewtwo with proper training. I've done it before. Pokemon is an RPG; anybody can beat the snot out of anybody.
Pichu could never kill mewtwo in a serious battle :V
EDIT: But were talking about what a character can do not what kind of stats it has. Mewtwo and Pichu are able to compete in the fighting game against eachother (as well as everone else) because they were given movesets based on what the characters can actually do. You cant exactly take away/nerf everything about a character without ruining it.
We're also talking about a power armor that can't easily be pierced by mere bullets. A katana-wielding bad-ass ninja can be stopped by a simple plumber for all that matters.
Hell, Sonic can't even swim, so that would put him at a disadvantage.
Instead of talking about nerfing him, you actually won't have to nerf him. YOU DON'T WANT TO. Ryu Hayabusa is all about cool moves, about speed. Sure he's powerful, but, as someone said, power is relative. Power can easily be traded in for speed, and it always balances out. And speed can always be countered by projectiles. And there are also other methods.
For example, he could have a decent jump, but it would require skills to fully benefit it with a slightly faster fall speed. Also, it is impossible to make every move a potential throw, or even a launcher or meteor, so some moves will potentially only cause little damage. But, fast and little can result in big damage overall.
But most of the power goes into the B-moves. Now, it wouldn't be easy to "nerf" them, but you don't have to. Let's say Ryu Hayabusa draws power from somewhere, so all his B-moves are connected to his power, which is visually seen on something, for example, his blade. The more it glows, the more damage each B-attack does, but each time you attack with said moves, the blade will glow less.
His Final Smash would be something entirely different. Instead of going with those simple one-hit KO type moves, make it a sort of dragon type move. He moves with fucking speed, with the same grace as in the Ninja Gaiden games, and just fucking hurts. Has the potential to be overpowered, but hell, nobody's going to use items anyway. Or, because it's so powerful, even more powerful that Wario Man and Yoshi's Super Dragon together, make it considerably shorter. Oh, and it can't get fall-down damage, and when time runs out, Ryu Hayabusa automatically gets teleported to a safe spot on the stage.
Seriously, fuck nerfing. We give nerfing the finger, that's why we can call ourselves smarter than the average bears, nyahee!
And where do his platforming abilties go?
EDIT: And consider this; your movelist just removed all of his Ultimate Techniques, which are pretty much a staple in the Ninja Gaiden series. You also got rid of all of his projectile moves.
Another thing to consider; Ryu can interrupt literally all of his combos by blocking or rolling. If you give him that ability in-game, he's now broken. If you take it out, you just nerfed him.
guys, he's a ninja. give him a bunch of badass super fast ninja moves and rad platforming skills and make all his attacks super weak
So hes going to be Sheik?

Okay I watched it, so he has super fast combos... How is that over powered? You're making him sound like he can warp time, move mountains and destroy galaxies. He's just really really fast!

Sonic can run on water in certain games... So can Luigi apparently. Oh and Link could using the Pegasus boots.

Um a lot of characters can hop in between walls in video games I mean Mario's been doing that for a very long time. And uh running up walls is Sonic's specialty. And occasionally Mario does that too.
Tyvon is trying to portray him as Jesus, Sonic can run up walls, but he cant walk. Why should we use a character that can pretty much be Sonic, Mario, Sheik, and Ike (and more) all in one?
