Bomberman?
He's Hudson, which is owned by Konami. Its the same way that we consider Pokemon as part of Nintendo, even through its technically GameFreaks. No two Konami reps, no Bobmberman. Unfortunately. He'd be a much better bomb-throwing character that Syrup.
As for FE, go with just Eliwood. The 3 switch really doesn't work. He's another sword compared to an axe or a girl, but I thought of a unique idea to make him work. He has a horse, right? Well, this moveset sort of works around that. Not completely, though. It's sort of two-in-one. The way it works is that Eliwood can be played on or off the horse. When not riding the horse, it just stands still (or maybe it follows him around). But he moves on his own. However, he is slow and his jumping sucks. So if you're moving a lot, you want to stay on the horse. When riding the horse, you move really quickly (like Wario's bike). The horse can also jump really well. The problem is that you can's swing your sword hard or low while riding. So you can't use smash attacks, only weaker tilts. If you get hit with a strong attack, you get knocked off of the horse. Bdown gets back on (or calls the horse to you if it's not next to you). When you're off of the horse. Another sword user.
I know this sounds gimmicky, and it might not work. But it's an idea, and it makes him unique.
I don't like the organization.
Also, am I the only one who thinks that Mother really, really REALLY should NOT have four characters? I know it's popular, but it's only three games, and only one outside of Japan. If we're trying to be fair and have equal representation for the series that deserve it, then this is the biggest problem. I know Ton is a big fan of the series, but more characters than games total is just too big of a problem. I'd prefer if there was only Ness and Lucas (honestly, if it weren't for Brawl, I'd prefer just Ness), but I know having at least 3 is inevitable.
@Wes: No, you're not the only one, but I've just given up trying to argue it.
I'm feeling for Eliwood. It's a good concept, and it might even feel as if you're playing as Roy, due to the uncanny resemblance between the two.
To go along with the Mother argument I think Porkey is just too complicated to be able to use due to the restrictions set by him being in a spider mech, plus hes cooler as a boss
But whatever
EDIT: If you were to try and go for equal representation for the entire series, Masked Man would more than likely be replaced by Ninten, who surprisingly would be fun to make a moveset for.
Okay, final attempt at plugging a suggestion for a third party character in case we do end up with eight again:
The Prince
Now, this isn't just any specific prince, he's actually an amalgam between all the previous prince characters. Sure, he also has a sword, or dagger, which ever is more handy.
Actually, fuck it, I can't think of a workable moveset.

...what?
Who?
And one of the major things I tried to do with the newest roster was alleviate some of the mother hate by expanding other franchises. We have Goroh and Tingle, a bunch of new first parties, and I'm trying to think of another Mario character (Waluigi?). Four characters really isn't a lot when you consider it's two from each game and each game has its own expansive story. And it's not like they're all sharing a moveset like Fox/Falco/Wolf. The two we've added are completely different from the current representatives.
Poll for first parties is up. Call me optimistic, but I feel like we're getting really close, here. That's probably because Koopaul hasn't posted yet.

You know, the one who is supposed to be coming from Iran.

My suggestions:
1st party - Chibi Robo (until I find a better one). He has enough gadgets and moves to justify a good moveset
3rd party - Rayman (as I already stated)

But then someone stated the "but we already have a Sukapon and he's more deserving" bullshit, so that's why I suggested the Prince. Same company, a bit more flexible with movesets.

Same company as Rayman or Sukapon?
EDIT: I just saw the poll. Just forget my Chibi Robo idea
