I imagine it would be pretty bothersome to add special mechanics just for one item. It's not all that hard to do, it's just too much work. Also, it adds one more sprite to do, the Dragoon back sprite, meaning, spriting the character from behind, sitting on the Dragoon.
What kind of special mechanics?
Pick all three pieces, the character will fly off with the dragoon (three sprites, one of each parts merging together, one more for the dragoon itself facing the screen, one for the character sitting on it facing the screen) and then just add the aim thing, and then two sprites - one of the dragoon facing in the opposite direction of the screen, and another one of the character sitting on the dragoon facing in the opposite direction of the screen, dashing incredibly fast, knocking the foe out of the screen (we would have to cut that special zoom when the dragoon hits someone though). It doesn't seem hard to me.
I didn't say it was hard, I said it was bothersome. You do need to keep track for everybody that either one has one of the items, that all items are still on-screen, and that all items only occur once. Next to that, simply adding anything that requires screen aiming needs special programming work. While you could just reuse the code for the grenade launcher and possible stage hazards, it would still be some added thing. Not to mention making it visually appealing. You'll need to calculate in the zooming AND parallaxing movement to give it the feeling that something is actually flying towards the stage rather than resizing onto the stage.

Taking items out just because it'd be bothersome to program/sprite them is stupid, the Dragoon is a nice addition and we shouldn't take out features just because it wouldn't be a pleasurable task to do them, we're spriting and programming different moves for nearly 60 different characters, programming and spriting how the Dragoon would work looks like a nice little job near this goal. About the zooming in/out, I don't think it'd be hard, we could do the same thing that they did to Ridley in Super Metroid, a zooming in with a bit of rotating, it feels natural and full of flow.

I would say improve(or nerf, depending on how you're looking at it) the fan, but it's been pretty much the same for every game.
And yes, parasol and red shell definitely need to make a return.

I agree with the Parasol. I liked the Flipper, too. Not better than the Bumper, but it was still a pretty good item.
The fan gets on my nerves, though. There should be some way to get out of the 'Infinite Fan combo'....

There doesn't need to be an infinite fan combo in this...
Yes Parasol. I'm not so sure about the Red Shell though.
I always the timer was really stupid. Should we get rid of that?

Please keep the fan. I love that item. I like the failure of the gold hammer because if you try to hit somebody, "SQUEAK!"

Heck no, he timer has saved my butt so many times, and not just when it works. I've had it slow me down which let me stay in the air and out of danger longer.

The Dragoon makes the Warp Star look foolish. It's almost like a super powerful Warp Star.
Like I said before the item is so powerful that the Smash Ball wouldn't appear if any of the peices appeared on stage!
That's right it rivals the power of the Smash Ball!
Besides we have too many Kirby items already.
Same with Mario toss one of those new ones out.

So we add more items from other franchises?

I have an Idea...
All the items that must be worn (Bunny hat, Franklin badge, Ect...) require us making more sprites, as well is they take up plenty of much needed space in the game.
So rather then just spriting them onto the characters and then inserting, whoever is programing (?) should just program
a little icon onto their status bar like when you have a dragoon piece. That way, we still have that space that gets taken up by un-needed sprites.
Opinions?
