We are no longer taking the other kind of ad, if they do come up, tell me and I will get them removed.
Blocking ads prevents us from earning, which means that the server I just dished out for will be entirely out of my pocket...

When you guys suggest people to block ads, you're pretty much telling them to not let me earn any kind of revenue from the site - there has been a dramatic decrease in impressions for the ads since you guys have been suggesting adblock. Yet site hits have remained around the same if not more.

It's a con for using 3rd party ads. You have no control and it only takes hackers to hack the ad server to distribute malware/spyware/viruses through ads. But even if the 3rd party ads are clean, the ads won't respect the rules of your site. They'll overrule your coding to do whatever they want. The risks and annoyances of 3rd party ads is why people use adblocking software in the first place.

Maybe people wouldn't be quick to use adblockers if sites start going 1st party and handle their own ads manually or failing that, sponsorships. A site could pay a considerable cost to have their ads run exclusively for a set time.

Hey, that's a great idea Ngamer! Why don't I do that? OH YEAH I FORGOT.
I live a life of work, full time. I don't have the skills and qualifications to seek out companies for advertisements. I also on top of that don't have the manpower to handle invoicing, collection and management of my advertisements for the sake of paying for the costs of this site.

I don't think that our advertiser, AOL, who sought us out, are going to have any problems with distributing malware.
Our other company, likewise.

Before you criticise the workings of 3rd party advertising distribution, look into the work that these people do. And consider how much time it'd take for me to do it all when these guys work all day, and have teams.
I work 7am to 7pm 5 days a week in a job that gives me 30 minutes of free time during the day.

Now kindly stop being a moron.

Here's a legit question for ya Dazz: Does clicking ads boost revenue for the site (as little as it may be), or is it solely from having the ads up that helps pay for it? And if it is the former, do you get a certain amount of money for one click for each ad, or just for clicking an ad in general? In other words, since I don't think I'm describing it right, if a person clicked 3 ads in the same hour, all of them for different things, would that be just one amount, or would it be 3 times as much?

Now that's an interesting question. I click on the ads now and then, but do you get paid by the number of clicks or do you get a fixed amount by holding the ad space alone?

I believe ads are CPM (as in, he gets money from ads being displayed, not clicked), but don't quote me on that.

Our ads are for the most part CPM based, so that for every 1000 impressions (views) the site gets, I get an amount.
It varies on the ads displayed, as they rotate.

Some ads are CPC, but I don't want to tell you to click the ads if you aren't really interested in them - If you are interested, click away.

We probably shouldn't discuss this any more, the ad partners arn't fond of us talking about how we receive money from them as they feel that it may lead to members being encouraged to click more in order to generate more money which for us is good but for them clicking ads for the sake of it is bad.

The ad itself isn't really bothersome... but it plays sound when it loads.

This needs to go.
Shows up on every TSR page and talks in the same voice as the "congradulations you one, click here to revieve" laptop adds.
Kid in his mom's basement with a mike quality voice.
Real irritating.

Edit> oh, someone else posted it.

Ironically, this has a virus on it.

Which virus scanner tells you this? Because I know one that tells you that but is actually lying, if it's another one, I'll remove it asap.

I'll PM you, I'd rather not have my virus protection software known. When I scan my computer it has found viruses on it, presumably from the ad.
